Salary range is between $115,000 and $130,000/year, depending on experience.
Position Summary
Freedom House is committed to the safety and security of our staff and is seeking a Senior Global Security Manager (SGSM) to support the Director of Global Security (DGS) in developing, implementing, monitoring, and managing Freedom House (FH) safety and security operations worldwide. The position is envisioned to focus on security risk management of field offices and personnel and allowing the DGS to focus on developing institutional policies, strategies, and geopolitical developments. The SGSM will coordinate with program and research personnel in the U.S. and abroad to assist in managing security risks and ensure that they comply with FH policies. The SGSM will also serve as a trusted and experienced advisor to the DGS as they jointly manage FH’s security and establish a robust Security Risk Management System (SRMS) and a culture of security risk management for the institution. In the absence of the DGS the SGSM assumes all security responsibilities.

Principal Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:
Support Field Programs and Operations
Manage daily interactions and issues with field office and HQ staff.
Help field office develop security risk management protocols.
Develop, implement, and manage a consistent method to collect security incident reports, analyse, and effectively communicate to leadership.
Travel to the field, conduct security risk assessments.
Help draft country specific security plans.
Travel
Manage all aspects of staff security travel, including briefings, assuring travel is logged and monitored, manage check-in, and respond to travelers’ security needs.
Information Monitoring and Dissemination
Monitor and research security issues as they arise, share information in real time with FH personnel, offer options for addressing issues, and work with leadership to provide appropriate equipment, materials, and/or training to staff.
Liaise with field offices to ensure regional security incidents are reported and responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
Trainings and Briefings
Provide Security Management and Personal Security Trainings as appropriate for Field and HQ staff.
Provide security briefings for new HQ employees, consultants, interns, etc.
Assist the DGS in developing an agency-wide security risk management program and institutionalising it.
On Call/Readiness
Serve as primary point of contact for all security-related matters and logistical support.
Available upon request to travel overseas to address emergencies overseas, to identify security concerns related to FH activities, and to provide concrete advice and assistance as needed.
In times of security emergencies, serve as the point person (24/7) to support the DGS in obtaining rapid and frequent communication from the field and by making recommendations for necessary action.
Administrative Functions
Coordinate and attend meetings and security briefings. Record applicable information and distribute action items.
Manage and maintain security related documents (forms, protocols, tools, plans, phone trees, etc.) for guidance.
Draft and provide regular updates of internal safety materials, plans and policies.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Significant experience in Global Enterprise Security Risk Management.
Five or more years of experience assisting international organisation(s) in developing security strategies, implementing operational plans, and responding to the challenges of ensuring staff safety and security in a global organisation.
Preferably brings:
Prior experience in NGO Security Risk Management.
A BA/BS in a relevant field.
Experience living or working abroad, specifically in hostile and stressful environments.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
General Work Environment:
Professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment.
Some evening and weekend hours to complete essential tasks, attend important events, and/or respond to emergency assistance requests.
Overseas travel is estimated at 25% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
This is a largely sedentary role with a majority of the time spent at a desk operating a computer and a phone. The person in this position needs to be comfortable with the demands of overseas travel by plane and ground transportation.
The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., and to attend meetings.
The person in this position often communicates with executives, service and benefits providers, staff and other stakeholders and must be able to communicate accurate information and ideas.
