We are looking for a highly-motivated Senior Security Officer.
The role of the Senior Security Officer (SSO) is to provide leadership in the coordination, analysis and implementation of security-related activities relevant to the People in Need (PIN) Syrian response (NES). The SSO carries out the duties listed below, and is primary liaison point, trainer and implementing coordinator, between NES Security department personnel in Syria, and Country Security Manager.
NOTE: Due to the unique nature of the position, two aspects of the role is imperative:
Availability:
As an emergency contact, it is expected, that the SSO will be available outside normal business hours on their allocated mobile phone and Skype account. This is to ensure to continual monitoring and reporting of all security in NES, outside normal business hours.
Information security:
Any information the SSO receives in the course of their work regarding safety and security of PIN NES and/or employees will be treated as confidential. The SSO will not discuss such information with any party outside the office unless explicitly instructed by the Country Director and/or Country Security Manager.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
The SSO is a leadership role for the NES Security Department. The SSO should still perform the functions of the SO, however should drive the department and promote higher levels of performance and compliance.
Monitor, Evaluate, Coordinate and lead the NES Security department personnel in Syria, ensuring they are implementing PIN security policy, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Contingency Plans (CPs), under the guidance and leadership of the Country Security Manager.
Provide ongoing analytical, contextual and security information to the Country Security Manager, with regular contribution from NES Offices, for PIN’s Syrian response. This will feed directly and indirectly into the Country Security Manager’s bi-weekly and monthly reports to various departments including PIN HQ. This includes monitoring threats, trends and forecasts related to PIN areas of operational activity NES.
Currently cross-border operations is not possible for the SSO, however should the situation change and subject to adequate security conditions, the SSO is to visit NES Offices when needed, to implement training, conduct security audits and monitor the work of the NES Security Department.
The SSO, under the guidance and leadership will be responsible to facilitate, organise and deliver Safety and Security Training to all new PIN Syrian Response staff based in Erbil, Kurdistan including but not limited to Security Arrival Briefs.
The SSO will have an expert contextual understanding of KRI and Iraq, to advise and assist the Country Security Manager and the NES Team based in Erbil, Kurdistan.
The SSO, with the guidance and leadership of the Country Security Manager, will monitor, evaluate and implement any policy and procedures relevant to the Syrian Response Team based in Erbil, Kurdistan including but not limited to PIN Security Policy, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Contingency Plans (CPs).
To ensure the timely, effective and regular communication of security related information between NES Team and Country Security Manager.
The SSO will assist the Country Security Manager in any translation and interpreting related tasks (Arabic and Kurdish).
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Fluent written and spoken English, Arabic & Kurdish.
Experience of working in security in both Kurdistan AND Iraq.
He/She must have worked within NGO environment.
Experienced in dealing with highly complex security.
Environment in high a high risk environment.
Computer skills including the ability to operate spreadsheets and word processing programs at a highly proficient level.
