The aim of the Security Risk Management System (SRMS) is to ensure the physical and psychological integrity of staff and to enable projects to implement in all regions the German Cooperation is active.
 
Your tasks
The GIZ Security Risk Management Advisor (m/f) Nigeria works under the direct supervision of the GIZ Country Director. You are supported by a National Security Risk Management Advisor and Project Security Focal Points. You advise the country director on all aspects of everyday operational security risk management, including emergency procedures. Your input is needed to maintain a state-of-the-art security risk management system on site and implement guidelines for the GIZ country office in Nigeria with a focus on implementing areas such as Abuja, Lagos, Plateau State. You will be asked to analyse security incidents throughout your region and collect, contextualise, and evaluate security related information. Frequent context and actor analyses as well as incident reporting and the development of emergency procedures will be the focus of your daily work. Furthermore you are expected to liaise with a wide range of actors, including your target audience, local and national authorities as well as international state and non-state actors, and military forces. You will prepare security risk assessments according ISO 31000, risk analysis, incident reports, weekly/ monthly security reports, district profiles, and other research documents as required. You will keep staff members and consultants in the region up to date on the security situation and implement directives to safeguard employees. In addition your assistance is required in assessing static security (apartments and offices), and implementing appropriate security measures. Finally you are supposed to advise the Country Security Risk Management Team during crisis situations. In addition, you advise GIZ programmes on conflict sensitive programme design and implementation as well as peace and conflict assessments. You establish a range of capacity development measures/trainings for GIZ staff related to security risk management and conflict sensitive programming.

Your profile
University Degree in security, risk, crisis and disaster management, social science, international relations, peace and conflict studies or another relevant field required
Sound professional experience in Security Risk Management Systems in international organisations required; preferably at least 5 years in progressively responsible positions
Working experience in a similar role, preferably in an African context
Familiarity with development/ humanitarian organisations’ security risk management systems highly desired
Sound knowledge of Do-No-Harm and conflict sensitive programme planning, implementation and M & E.
Formal trainings in safety & security for development/ humanitarian organisations, security risk management and/ or hostile environment awareness desired
Sound understanding of conflict and political context in Nigeria desired
Excellent analytical skills required
Excellent communication and advisory skills
Ability to work autonomously with little guidance and ability to make sound decisions in critical situations without overreacting required
Willingness to regularly travel to remote locations in Nigeria
Fluency in English required; good knowledge of German language desired
Experience in conducting and facilitating trainings
Formal security, police or military training and/ or work experience is not sufficient on its own without experience in the field of development/ humanitarian work
