Corrections Training Team Advisor

Job Description
Under the Criminal Justice Program Support contract (CJPS), the US Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (DOS-INL) is mandated to furnish assistance to countries and international organizations by strengthening foreign police and criminal justice systems with a
wide array of support. In furtherance of the CJPS mission objectives, FedSys is currently seeking a Corrections Training Team Advisor to support the Department of State in Xalapa, Veracruz, (Mexico) at the Mexican National Corrections Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in providing expert training in all facets of corrections.
Assist the Government of Mexico (GOM) agencies in assessing their current programs.
Liaise regularly with United States Government (USG), senior host government, and international actors.
On rare occasions, may serve in very senior specialist roles.
Prompt and regular attendance.
Other duties as assigned by senior FedSys management.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Ability to instruct and communicate corrections programs, policies and procedures in Spanish.
Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
The ability and willingness to train other individuals in their area of expertise.
Ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle.
Ability to pass requisite physical, medical and psychological tests appropriate to assigned mission/country.
Ability to work independently, working with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment on a regular basis.
Excellent analytical verbal and written communication skills.
Negotiating, interpersonal and leadership skills.
Visionary skills and ability to form strong partnerships with diverse culture.
Proficient skills in the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, etc.) are required.

Interface
This position will interact with both internal and external customers to include members of FedSys and customer senior management and international actors.

Language Requirements
Ability to communicate in English (Foreign Service Institute standard for Level 4 reading comprehension, writing and speaking).
Fluent or Native Spanish communication ability (FSI 3/3 proficiency or equivalent rating).

Security Requirements
Candidates must be able to successfully pass a background and a nine-panel drug screening as a condition of employment. In addition, the candidate must also possess and maintain at MRPT (Moderate Risk Public Trust) clearance level or higher as a condition of employment. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements. Clearance level requirement may be subject to change at the Government’s discretion. In this event, you will be required to obtain and maintain the required clearance for the duration of your employment. Incumbent may be selected at a higher or lower clearance level as specified by any change made by the Government.

Candidate must be a US citizen with a valid US passport and valid US Driver’s License.

Educational / Work Experience
Possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university in any field is required.
Degrees in criminal justice, social sciences, accounting, or communications is preferred but not required. Education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for each year served in U.S. corrections at the rank of Associate/Deputy Warden (or the equivalent).
Graduation from a U.S. federal or state corrections or probation officer academy certified by a POST commission or equivalent, and of at least 120 hours in length.
Minimum of 7 years as a Corrections Officer in the United States, with at least 2 years at the rank of Sergeant, or equivalent.
At least 3 years as a Corrections Trainer in an academy certified by a POST commission, or equivalent.
Individual must have a demonstrated track record of accomplishment in training other corrections officers.
