Description:

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The COIN advisor is the subject matter expert (SME) in the theory, doctrine, and practice of counterinsurgency operations. The COIN advisor will provide COIN SME support to Counterinsurgency Advisory & Assistance Team (CAAT) headquarters, Regional Command (RC) Teams and supported units; monitor, assess and report to CAAT HQs and RC teams on the COIN performance of personnel and organizations in theater; develop and propose testing, fielding and implementation of COIN solutions including (but not limited to) new tactics, equipment, technology, training, doctrine and concepts in support of CAAT RC Teams and supported units; provide COIN field advice and assistance as needed to RC headquarters and tactical units to improve operational performance; collect, refine, disseminate, monitor and assess COIN best practices in theater; maintain continuous communications with the RC CAAT Team Leaders and report on their location, activities, well being and operational needs and other tasks as directed by CAAT headquarters or RC Team leaders.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
The COIN Advisor will have previous operational experience in counterinsurgency campaigns; a minimum of 10 years work experience in counterinsurgency related fields; recent experience in the OW or Operation Enduring Freedom (preferred) theaters; ability to provide clear, concise reporting; demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication; ability to obtain the required level security clearance. The candidate will have a BS in a strategic analysis or COIN related field (e.g. security studies, conflict studies, international relations, management, operations research).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A passport is required and must be valid with an Afghan Visa; the expiration date must go beyond the end of the deployment time period.
