General Role Player- MCAGCC, Twenty- nine Palms, CA; Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX; Ft. Knox, Louisville, KY(Open Submission)General Role Player- Summary
A General Role Player (GRP) usually plays one of several roles of various indigenous people in an Iraqi or Afghan village. The theater within which the GRP acts is a realistic Iraqi or Afghani village erected on a military training site. Roles to be played include scripted and improvisational roles of members of the village’s general populace, insurgents and business owners. GRPs may also play roles commonly associated with U.S. personnel. The GRP provides these services in support of situational training exercises of the U.S. military.
General Role Player- Essential Duties and Responsibilities- include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Be able to interpret and portray an assigned role and remain in the character of that role for the duration of the training exercises (except during meals, breaks and uninterrupted rest periods)
Be able to convincingly play the role of an Iraqi or Afghani villager in roles with only rudimentary Arabic speaking requirements
Dress in costume appropriate to role
Perform interpretations of emotions, actions appropriate to situations defined using body movements, facial expressions and gestures
May sing and/or dance in appropriate settings (i.e. weddings, funerals)
Be able to convincingly react to various scenarios in and around the village while in assigned role
Be able to convincingly improvise his/her character’s actions depending upon the actions and reactions of the U.S. military trainees
Be able to understand and take direction related to the interaction of assigned character with other role players in the village
Be able to convincingly react to changing and unscripted character and movements of U.S. military trainees within the village theater
Some (but not all) jobsites may require one or more specific roles, subject to additional duties and responsibilities as follows.
General Role Player-Embedded Reporter
An Embedded Reporter plays the role of a news reporter embedded with U.S. military personnel as they perform various duties in the replicated village and surrounding areas. In addition to the Essential Duties and Responsibilities above, an Embedded Reporter is required to:
Convincingly perform as an embedded reporter while realistically interacting with villagers in a dynamic setting (e.g., covering the explosion of an IED at a roadside checkpoint)
Write in a clear and comprehensive manner consistent with a news reporter and take video of news events
Travel with U.S. military patrols, both on foot and in military vehicles, in a manner consistent with an embedded reporter
Have sufficient knowledge of the applicable U.S. military branch to play the part of an embedded reporter
General Role Player-U.S. Personnel
A U.S. Personnel GRP emulates a variety of positions normally performed by U.S. personnel, including but not limited to U.S. government officials; civil affairs personnel; psychological operations personnel; and Western media personnel. Roles may be neutral, friendly, or adversarial in nature. In addition to the Essential Duties and Responsibilities, a GRP performing one of these roles is required to:
Convincingly perform the assigned role while realistically interacting with other role players and military trainees in a dynamic setting
As required by the assigned role, speak and write clear and comprehensive English
Submit to detention or questioning for extended periods of time by U.S. military trainees participating in the training exercise
As required, play more than one character in an exercise without causing confusion or ambiguity for the U.S. military trainees participating in training exercises
Required Skills
General Role Player- Requirements & QualificationsGeneral Role Player-Required
Be a U.S. citizen
Be proficient in English (speaking, comprehending, reading and writing)
Have military, government or contract experience in the Middle East Theater of operations within the past eight years.
Hiring priority will be given to candidates with the most recent experience, particularly to those with experience within the past five years.
General Role Player-Preferred
Experience in improvisational or semi-scripted acting
Experience in playing roles for extended periods of time
Required Experience
General Role Player-Physical RequirementsGood physical conditioning and stamina required. Regularly stoop, bend, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, climb stairs, and walk across broken ground and obstacles. Regularly in character for more than 12 hours during a day; regularly work 4 days straight without leaving the training area. Standing for prolonged periods of time. Near visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.
General Role Player-Work Environment
Field conditions prevail. Work locations may be subject to blowing dust and sand, heavy rains or snow, and temperatures ranging from 10(-) degrees F in the winter to 125(+) degrees F in the summer.

General Role Player -Additional Qualifying Factors
Must be able to able to gain access to US military installations. As a condition of employment, candidates for posted positions must have acceptable background and reference check results and pass a pre-employment drug screening.
