Engagement - 90-day fixed term contract
Job purpose - The Maritime Security Officer (MSO) will deliver on-board security to the global shipping industry during transits through the High-Risk area. As a dedicated member of the vessel protection team you will excel in providing advice, conducting reviews, detecting and delaying maritime threats before defending. You will represent Control Risks to the highest professional standards, conducting duties in accordance to Control Risks ethics, integrity and standard operating procedures.
Tasks and responsibilities
To understand and demonstrate competence in Control Risks Standard Operating Procedures and personal skills
Client etiquette, discipline and Control Risks low profile approach
Knowledge of threat and key issues in Mozambique
Advanced First Aid skills
Competent Navigation skills including map, compass and use of GPS
To maintain competence in these skills through regular formal assessment
To work as part of a vessel protection team.
To display an in depth knowledge of the relevant maritime organisations, publications and procedures.
To liaise with relevant organisations in the event of an incident.
To conduct maritime scenario training to teach and practice the crew in lock down procedures.
Knowledge and experience
Essential
Minimum 5 years military service
Previous operational experience in a front-line Military service (Iraq or Afghanistan)
Experience of working in multinational teams and operating with diverse cultures, knowledge of the relevant articles of SUA, SOLAS, UNCLOS with regard to Maritime Security.
Experience working within the Maritime security industry.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Proactive approach to work with a desire to succeed.
Preferred
Military Command Training.
12 months experience working within the Maritime security industry
Experienced deputy team leader
Fluent in Portuguese
Experience working in Mozambique
Experience working for Control Risks
Qualifications and specialist skills
Valid and in date SIA Frontline Close Protection Certificate accredited by OfQual
Valid and in date certificate for FPOS-I Level 4 and/or FREC Level 3 / offshore medic’s course
Police Certificate / DBS or CRB in-date within the past 6 months
Military records
Valid Seaman’s book
STCW 95 – 4 modules
Maritime Firearms Competency course (dated within 12 months)
ENG 1 Medical (dated within 12 months)
Maritime Security Operators course – City and Guilds or similar accreditation.
