Description
HALO is seeking Technical Advisors to work on its growing portfolio of Middle East Programmes. HALO has a growing presence in the region and has a number of mechanical and manual assets working to clear improvised explosive devices and other explosive remnants of war. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will work in the field providing technical oversight of clearance and survey teams to ensure safety, efficiency and develop best practice.
Key responsibilities are:
• Report to, and liaison with allocated programme, project or operations manager as required
• Contribute to the initial and ongoing training of teams
• Ensuring the safety of teams and local population at all times
• Liaison with local and national authorities
• Leadership, discipline and maintenance of standards of team members
• Advising on technical problems encountered on tasks
• Ensuring reporting is correct
• Quality Assurance of all aspects of team work
• Conduct specific tasks beyond the technical capabilities of team members if required (e.g. complex EOD tasks, reporting, or task planning)
• Any other duties consistent with general expectations of appointment, as required
Requirements
Qualified to IMAS Explosive Ordnance Disposal Level 3 or equivalent
• Qualified to IMAS Improvised Explosive Device Disposal level 3 or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years’ operational experience
• Experience in delivering EOD training, instruction and the general development of national capacities
• Technical knowledge – a comprehensive understanding of IED clearance, detection and disposal
• Communication Skills – effective spoken and written communication and an ability to build effective working relationships
• Creativity and Innovation – strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to handle a range of management and coordination issues
• 3 years’ experience of working in and living in harsh and remote environments, and in close proximity to others
• Good IT skills are essential
• Military background beneficial
