Danish Demining Group (DDG) is the humanitarian mine action unit of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). DDG has operated in Afghanistan since 1999, initially beginning operations in Kandahar province, before moving its headquarters to its current location in Kabul. Since 2012, it has been a fully integrated department of DRC Afghanistan. DDG delivers a comprehensive package of mine action services, including non-technical and technical survey, explosive ordnance risk education (EORE), mine clearance (manual and mechanical), battle area clearance, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
ABOUT THE JOB
The EORE Coordinator will be responsible for the overall planning, management and quality of DDG’s Community liaison, and EORE projects and activities. S/he will primarily work with national colleagues, the national authorities and other stakeholders to design and provide tailored RE packages and will lead the introduction of new and creative RE methodologies with a focus on behavioral change and monitoring and evaluation.
S/he will report directly to the DDG Head of Programme (HoP) and will support them in identifying areas of programme development and growth based on the emerging local needs and evolving dynamics. Emphasis in the role will also be placed on ensuring synergies between RE design and delivery, and other programme (e.g. Protection) activities with innovative/creative approaches.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical support throughout all stages of the RE project cycles
Represent DRC/DDG at relevant workshops/meetings including at Government and donor meetings
Review and develop DDG’s RE methodologies, materials and training packages in accordance with DDG global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Afghanistan Mine Action Standards (AMAS) and International Mine Action Standards (IMAS)
Conduct quality control, monitoring and evaluation to ensure the quality of CL and RE activities
Prepare internal and external reports on project activities in a timely manner and verify compliance with approved requirements and work plans, organizational SOPs, and donor commitments.
Assist in the development of project concept notes, proposals, budgets and other relevant internal and external documents
Coordinate with relevant sector partners and other DRC sectors to ensure that RE priorities are mainstreamed and linked to other sectors, particularly, protection and emergency sectors
Develop and implement innovative approaches to RE, including communication campaigns
Design and implement evidence-based research exercises to ensure programme quality and impact monitoring including Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice (KAP) survey, analysis of common datasets and desk-top research
Work closely with the DRC Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) department.
Supervise the EORE Specialist and provide necessary training, assistance and feedback to relevant staff members
Assist in building effective working relationships with stakeholders through sharing information and knowledge to facilitate project implementation
Build capacity of key stakeholders to achieve and sustain results and cement DDG as a leading and innovative RE provider
Budgetary oversight of relevant projects when necessary
Support the mainstreaming of Age, Gender and Diversity into the MA programme
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you must have:
Experience and technical competencies:
3+ years of relevant experience in EORE and/or humanitarian mine action sector
Good knowledge of HMA and RE modalities, and previous experience in designing and delivering RE training
Demonstrated ability to design and implement social survey and research, and experience in analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, monitoring and evaluation and information management.
Development and implementation of communication campaigns and communication for development is an asset
Proven experience with staff management and ability to capacity build staff – often remotely.
Experience of supporting implementation of multi-donor, multi-site projects preferably in a complex and fragile environment.
Strong communication skills and experience of representing at all levels including donors, stakeholders and duty bearers.

A strong leader with an acute sense of proactivity, cooperation and networking, internally and externally
Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
Previous experience working in similar conflict contexts, with strong stress management capacity and a calm, patient approach.
Demonstrated capacity to work independently and take the lead with attention to detail
Willingness to travel to security approved site locations across Afghanistan
Education/qualifications:
BA degree in a relevant discipline from an internationally recognized university or equivalent experience
Languages:
English – Fluent written and spoken
