Job Summary
The Truck Driver operates company vehicles, including tractor trailers, with up to thirty (30) tons of capacity, to move materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to and from work locations and warehouses.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
Read and interpret instructions and documentation; plan work activities accordingly
Transport materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to and from work locations and warehouses
Load and unload vehicles
Observe and follow all safety rules, traffic regulations, and operating procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment and reporting delays or accidents
Maintain vehicle in a safe and clean condition
Conduct safety check and inspect all routine fluids on daily basis prior to driving vehicle for first time of each shift
Maintain vehicle log and submit daily vehicle deficiencies to supervisor
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
Customer-oriented with ability to courteously and effectively work through difficult situations
Skill in driving both automatic and standard transmission vehicles, both straight and combinations trucks, maneuvering tractor-trailer into loading or unloading positions, following hand and arm signals from others, and working as part of a team
Skill in coupling and uncoupling trailers, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks
Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment
Experience & Education
Minimum one (1) year of experience driving a tractor-trailer truck
High School Diploma or equivalent
Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) equivalent to a US Class A CDL, valid for 18 months beyond hire date
Good driving record
Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds, unassisted, multiple times throughout assigned shift
Ability to properly secure loads for transport using chains, binders, and straps with ability to climb ladders to inspect loads
Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
