Security Specialist role with the long-standing Australia Awards program
Up to 60 days of input over 12 months, with possibility of extension
At least forty days in PNG, including provincial visits, and the remainder as remote input from home location


The Position

This role will provide ongoing leadership and high-level technical input and advice regarding the security management of all activities across the program. This will include ensuring that the security policy and practices involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of program activities mitigate security risk and promote the best possible outcome for the program.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have a University degree with a focus on security management and/or related disciplines (Business Administration, Political/Social Science, International Relations) or equivalent, including military or police experience. We are seeking a specialist with a minimum ten years of relevant international security experience, including experience in planning, organising and enforcing security systems and in conducting risk assessments in developing countries.

To be successful in this role, you will have professional experience working in Melanesia and a demonstrated understanding of how local cultural and social dynamics may influence effective security requirements and responses. You will have demonstrated a high level of interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop the capacity of staff and build positive relationships across broad demographics.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high level reports and presentations. Demonstrated capacity to interact with various stakeholders in a complex cross-cultural environment is essential.
