The Opportunity
The Regional Safety & Security Adviser will oversee, contribute towards, promote and implement the global security strategy, policies and guidelines. In this role, you will proactively provide advice, support, instruction and training to all Plan offices in the region on security issues and is the technical supervisor of all security appointments within the region.
You will be responsible for providing an objective overview of security trends and issues across the regions. You will maintain an appropriate level of independence to intervene in situations where the country office level security management needs support. You will also be available to deploy rapidly when necessary.
This role requires you to manage the budget for security operations/programme assistance to countries within the region in collaboration with other Plan regional colleagues. You will also ensure that there are efficient communication lines established and maintained between all country security appointments and/or Country Directors, especially in emergency situations.
The Individual
We are looking to recruit a proactive and flexible individual who has in-depth knowledge in post-conflict and/or complex emergency environments. You will have good understanding and experience in neutrality in local conflicts and conflicting parties. In particular, you will be able to interact with all parties whilst maintaining a position of humanitarian neutrality.
You will also have a deep and clear understanding of humanitarian principles, codes of conduct and ideally specific sub-sector work such as protection, health and shelter. It is essential that you have demonstrable practical experience in security management, training or analysis in a relevant organisational setting whilst also having an advanced knowledge of communications technology.
To be successful in this role, you will be a self-starter who acts with honesty and integrity. You will understand Plan International’s needs and behave strategically to lead the processes and practices that support the achievement of organisational objectives. You will also have demonstrated time management and organisational skills in a relevant senior management position, whilst also having excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within diverse teams.

Type of Role: 2 year fixed term contract
Reports to: Regional Director
Salary: Competitive salary and package available
