Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Officer, FS-4, is responsible for the following duties:
• Assists in identification and coordination of security information requirements, collection, collation and dissemination of security threat information to security personnel, mission or area security
leadership.
• Analyzes security information, contributes to identification of trends of threats and security incidents
affecting United Nations system personnel, assets and operations at the mission's headquarters and/or regional offices.
• Contributes to trend analysis, collects information on factors of insecurity, and participates in determination of the relevance and validity of security information and the reliability of information
resources.
• Assists the CSO/DCSO in the development of security risk assessments in the country or regional offices, or in preparation of rapid, threat and risk assessments.
• Contributes to the development of corresponding security advisories and recommendations on security operating procedures.
• Participates in the development of the country-wide or regional security risk analysis, briefing materials and presentation to CSO/DCSO, Security Cell, DO, SMT, or ASMT on security matters.
• Participates in researches on specific threat factors and supports the Crisis Management Team (CMT) in response to specific security incidents.
• Maintains effective communication channels with security authorities and other interlocutors.
• Drafts and coordinates timely dissemination of security threat information to mission leadership and personnel.
• Prepares reports as required on analysis of security incidents affecting United Nations system personnel, assets and operations.
• Acts as duty officer in CMT during crisis situation.
• Assists the CSO or DSCO in preparing and updating relevant security plans and statistics;
• Assists in entering and maintaining records of relevant data in the office database;
Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
• Mission leadership and other United Nations Officials;
• Security personnel operating in the mission’s area of responsibility;
• Personnel from Military and Civilian Police Components of the field mission;
• Project Managers and other personnel;
