Purpose
The purpose of the role is to protect our people, premises and assets balanced against Business strategy, with a particular focus on traveller and overseas assignee risk. The role will include the drafting of security policy, implementation of operational security standards, and roll-out of the Crisis and Incident Response Plans. The Group Security Manager will develop strong relationships with Business Units, regional offices, and other functions to maintain a safe and secure working environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to build, develop and professionalise a fledgling security function. The role is broad in scope, from policy level decision making to rolling up your sleeves and delivering hands-on risk mitigation mechanisms.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for developing, communicating and implementing the Group Protective Security Policy and Standards as well as other tasks including, but not limited to:
Establish clear governance structures and risk management mechanisms to appropriately manage and escalate security risk issues.
Work with Business Units, travellers, local teams and offices to ensure appropriate, risk-based security measures are implemented and maintained.
Further develop and roll-out Crisis and Incident Management Procedures.
Train and develop employees with specific security responsibilities.
Lead the programme of security design, surveys and security controls conformance.
Source and manage appropriate security vendors as required, including designing the standards expected of the service, measurements and KPIs.
Review and develop global security awareness training, including specific requirements for assignees to high and extreme risk locations.
Assist in the development and delivery of Travel Security Standards and the delivery of awareness training.
Deliver strategic initiatives once agreed, by developing short and long-term plans – track and report progress and escalate issues when required.
Develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to leverage benefit of the organisation.
Drive efficiencies where possible and propose innovative technical and physical solutions.
Form, and be part of, the 24/7 operational response team, on hand to deal with issues, particularly crises.
Respond to audit points, develop and implement action plans as required.
The candidate
Background, skills, aptitude
The successful candidate will have detailed expertise in physical and technical security within a large global organisation (preferably in management roles), covering building, people and travel security risk management.
Essential skills:
Experience writing and developing Policies and Standards, and implementing governance mechanisms as part of an Enterprise Risk Framework.
Experience working in and managing security risk in Sub-Saharan and South Africa.
Collaborative and commercial acumen, with the ability to balance security requirements with business risk appetite.
Detailed knowledge of vendor management and contacts within the security vendor community.
Excellent briefing/presentation development and delivery, both written and verbal and strong analysis capability, up to Board level.
Strong leader, with a robust decision-making capability, the presence to instil confidence and remain level-headed during an incident.
Self-motivated, results-based approach work ethic, and ability to work under pressure in a high-performance environment.
Desirable skills;
Strong security sector network including Government and law enforcement agencies.
Project management qualification - ability to organize and reprioritize as the situation demands.
Ability to manage remote teams to ensure that task delivery and standards remain optimal.
Tertiary education in a relevant subject.
Executive Protection exposure preferred.
