Job Summary:
The K9 Regional Manager is responsible for K9 business through strategy development, innovation, performance monitoring and cost control. The incumbent will develop K9 Regional standards, innovative business strategies geared to sustainable business as well as business processes that ensure business continuity to match regional growth and global trends.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the strategic management and oversight of the East Africa K9 business to ensure regional business owners achieve their K9 revenue and profit KPI’s and key deliverables;
2. Maintain regional Standards & Certifications (in accordance with the Company’s recognised international standard) for all K9 operations which includes but is not limited to safe operational use of dogs, dog supply, training, health, infrastructure, deployment logistics (in-country and across borders), dog equipment, record keeping, welfare policy / disposal policy, HSE requirements etc.
3. Generate and apply the GW / KK K9 Policy across the region. This includes developing and implementing reporting mechanisms for the K9 business across the region and liaising closely with the GW IPS K9 QA/QC Manager;
4. In conjunction with Procurement, ensure the region maintains a continuous, sustainable, high quality and cost-effective working dog supply and be prepared to support GW IPS as needed;
5. Oversee the selection, vetting, recruitment and training of all dog handlers across the region and in support of GW IPS as needed;
6. Support business owners with preparing annual budgets in accordance with the region’s K9 strategy and goals;
7. In conjunction with Procurement, overseeing the procurement of but not limited to dog food (to include independent quality testing), equipment, insurance, veterinary, training materials such as, but not limited to, live and synthetic explosives and vehicles;
8. Develop innovative marketing strategies with the sales and marketing department to sustain existing business and develop new business;
9. Enhance the quality of K9 services by improving dog and handler training, supervision and management to include establishing a robust set of SOI’s & SOP’s to support K9 operations;
10. Develop new products in Detection Work such as Narcotics Detection and Explosive Detection for existing and emerging markets;
11. Establish a talent identification programme across the region and introduce K9 Values Awards;
12. Develop collaborations with local and international partners such as security authorities / agencies, suppliers, training & certification institutions and community organizations with similar corporate philosophy;
13. Manage key K9 client relationships by employing operational and customer relation strategies to ensure that the quality promise is always met;
14. Clarify dependent costs and liabilities associated with K9 revenue generation ensuring all business owners understand P&L for the K9 services;
15. Participate in all regional senior leadership meetings to include all monthly reviews and weekly sales calls;
16. Promote the Company’s brand equity and proactively identify potential clients and business opportunities for the Company;
17. Manage staff capacity, performance management and skill levels within the department across the region to meet current and planned operations. Participate in interviewing, hiring and inducting new staff across the region to include training, mentorship and leadership;
18. Support Commercial and Sales efforts, specifically bid and proposal development across the region;
19. In conjunction with business owners, responsible for agreeing on pricing for all K9 services;
20. Assist with the development of marketing materials to support K9 sales efforts to include providing demonstrations, briefings and training for country sales teams.

Accountability:

The K9 Regional Manager is accountable to the Managing Director EA for the responsibilities stated in this job description. These responsibilities will be monitored and managed through the mid-year and annual performance reviews and supported through the monitoring of KPIs.

Qualifications &Experience:


• Military experience working in K9 desirable;
• Individual Member of an International Working Dog Association;
• Minimum ten (10) years’ international commercial experience at a senior level with at least five (5) years at a managerial level in K9 Operations (in excess of 400 working dogs);
• IT literate;
• Experience managing a large team of international personnel;
• Batchelor degree educated.
