DanChurchAid (DCA) invites applications for experienced EOD/IEDD Technical Advisors (TA) for our humanitarian mine action clearance operations in Iraq. This is a non-family position, based initially in Erbil, with frequent travel for prolonged periods of time to project locations.

As the EOD/IEDD TA, you will report directly to the Operations Manager (OM) and assist with the start-up of humanitarian mine action clearance operations in Iraq, according to project plans and donor agreements. This will initially include setting-up a training school, training new staff and capacity building a national partner. In the second phase, you will be responsible for assisting the OM in recruiting, training and managing humanitarian mine action multi-task teams.

Main technical tasks and responsibilities include:

Train and capacity build national youth and partner staff;
Conduct IEDD, EOD and BAC tasks, as required;
Supervise and mentor search/clearance teams;
Work closely and in coordination with other DCA/partner HMA teams, including Risk Education and NTS teams;
Operate in accordance with the DCA SOPs;
Provide technical oversight of field operations of the component for which he/she is responsible, including training, safety and security, daily operational planning and implementation, and the direction and discipline of locally employed operational and administrative personnel under his/her control;
Prepare all relevant reports and documentation in a timely manner, using IMSMA forms;
Provide timely and detailed data for the programme output tracker;
Any other duties, as requested by OM.

We are looking for the following qualifications:
EOD level 3+ (IEDD) qualification is required (NATO standard or IMAS equivalent) with certificates from organisations that can demonstrate compliance with those standards;
Minimum 5 years International experience in Mine Action or equivalent recent (within the last two years) experience in military or police service dealing with mine action operations with civilian communities. Experience working in a humanitarian mine action NGO is an advantage;
Knowledge and experience of EOD/ERW/IEDD clearance methodologies and implementation is essential. The successful applicant will need to show currency of competency in this area;
Knowledge of and experience in IMAS, IMSMA, Non-Technical Survey, Community Liaison and Risk Education is an advantage;
Experience of successfully managing and mentoring national staff, including setting-up training schools and curricula;
Proven strong commitment to national capacity building;
Computer literacy essential including proficiency in excel, word, power point, mapping tools etc.
Fluency in English is a must and a working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage;
Ability to maintain flexibility in an environment where change or revision to projects and planning is regular;
Ability to fit well within a small team.
