Overview of the functions of the position
The Field Security Officer (FSO) will be responsible to coordinate with different internal and external parties, assess situations, risks and threats, and advise management on security and safety related matters. He will monitor and report on security compliance and provide security policy guidance and timely emergency preparedness actions.
Required qualifications
Education
· Advanced university degree (equivalent to Masters) in Political or Social Science, International Relations or related fields;
· Military, Police or National Intelligence background is an asset.
Work Experience
· At least 4 years of progressively responsible work experience, of which preferably 2 years acquired at international level, preferably with the UN;
· Experience in security management, peacekeeping operations, military, police, national intelligence or other international organization is required;
· Knowledge of practice and procedures of UN organizations is an asset. Specific experience in the Arab region or in a conflict/post-conflict country is an added advantage.
Skills and competencies
· Very good analytical and conceptual skills;
· Demonstrated skills in researching data and information and analyzing complex issues using independent judgment to anticipate potential risks, threats and impact;
· Sound knowledge of conflict analysis methodologies and proven ability to apply them;
· Skilled in describing uncertainty;
· Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking;
· Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to draft clear and concise analysis briefs summarizing information, explaining the conclusions of the research, and tailoring the communication to the needs and knowledge level of an audience;
· Ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team;
· Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with persons with different professional, national and cultural backgrounds.
Languages
· Excellent knowledge of English.
Desirable qualifications
Languages
· Good knowledge of Arabic or French.
