Summary:
Instructors will train foreign military students to produce qualified technicians in their assigned specialties who are able to maintain aircraft systems, subsystems, support equipment, and/or provide logistics support and expertise with little or no supervision. Training shall provide students specialty Upgrade Training to elevate skills from 3-level to 5-level, 5-level to 7-level, on F-15SA aircraft, GE engines, and associated support services for the following specialty:
NDI.
The NDI Technician is responsible for inspecting aerospace weapon system components and support equipment for structural integrity using non-destructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Determines test method and prepares fluids and parts for non-destructive inspection. Interprets NDI test results and provides information about defects to the repair work center. Analyzes wear metal content on engine lubricating oil and other fluids and recommends corrective action. Establishes radiation areas for radiographic operations. Computes and monitors personal exposure areas for radiographic operations and monitors personnel exposure data.
2. Performs NDI on structures, components, and systems. Detects flaws such as cracks, delaminations, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic test equipment. Determines metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors.
3. Operates, maintains, and inspects NDI equipment. Performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools. Ensures lock-out and tag-out procedures are accomplished prior to maintenance on equipment. Performs silver recovery functions. Handles and disposes of hazardous waste and materials.
Required Educational/Skills Background:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have five years’ previous expertise in the career field and a 7 skill level or equivalent craftsman level rating.
3. Possess a detailed working knowledge of characteristics of metals; wear metals identification and content; metal discontinuity and flaw detection; operation and maintenance of NDI test and oil analysis equipment; safety codes and practices; radiological safety and radiation monitoring procedures; technical orders and directives; and proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
4. Previous instructor qualification highly desired.
