English Language Instructor

Summary:
Provides English Language training and mentoring for students of the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority.


Essential Job Functions: (Duties typically include but not limited to)

Prepare and present basic to intermediate level foreign language platform and/or computer-based instruction within formal learning environment.
Deliver, develop, and present complex foreign language training materials with focus on translation, grammar, reading and writing comprehension, and listening and speaking.
Instructor provides intensive instruction to native and heritage foreign language speakers to include training in reading, writing, listening, and speaking to improve English language proficiency skills.
Develop objectives and tests in order to accurately measure learning progress and evaluate effectiveness of training presentations.
Identify and incorporate authentic language material to support objectives.
May be required to use classroom technology such as Smart Board, audio/video/DVD components, and computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
Work individually or as part of a teaching team, working cooperatively to meet students’ language goals.
Develop and deliver lesson plans utilizing broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies; employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students.
Maintain complete and accurate record of student progress and evidence of growth/progress.
Adapt, create, or update curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to individual students and subgroups of students.
Establishe and maintain standards for student behavior required to positively affect orderly and productive classroom environment.
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
Perform other duties as assigned by Site Management.

Knowledge & Skills:
Must possess outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills, to include a friendly and confident manner and effective listening skills.
Must have excellent organizational, record keeping, and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze issues while creating action plans.
Candidate must have ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment. Must facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions and have the ability to work with diverse individuals, groups, and cultures.
Must maintain sensitivity, tolerance, and patience in development stages and progression of English Language Learners (ELLs).
Ability to relate well to different groups of students within different ages and/or ability levels.
Must have ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintain flexible working hours while establishing and maintaining constructive relationships.
Must be able to communicate professionally, orally, and in writing. Meeting ICAO English Language Proficiency Requirements of Level 6.
Must be proficient with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Candidates must be physically able and willing to work long hours to meet mission and contract requirements.
Must be able to pass NATO employment and pre-deployment qualification requirements to include medical, drug testing, and background check, etc.
Must meet medical requirements to maintain relevant professional licenses.
Must be willing and able to work in austere conditions.
Required Experience


Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in English or related field or two to three (2-3) years’ experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
Must be fluent in English Language and familiar with teaching techniques/practices.
English speakers must have experience teaching the English language, possess a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, or a Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate.
Native language instructors with at least three (3) years of experience teaching English speaking adults. Target language in a formal environment is desired.
Previous U.S military or overseas language instruction experience desired.


License & Certifications:
Four (4) Year college degree in English.
Must have valid driver’s license and able to operate vehicle with a manual transmission.
May be required to obtain flight line driver’s license.
