Aviation Security Liaison Coordinator , Asia

Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting and interesting opportunity for an individual with drive to become part of the UK Government and Department for Transport (DfT) response to global aviation security challenges.

Aviation Security is a high profile area of work with significant interest across the UK and international Governments. DfT’s Aviation Security International Operations Division (ASIO) has expanded its network of Aviation Security Liaison Officers (ASLOs) and is looking to recruit an Aviation Security

Co-ordinator in Jakarta to support the ASLO and Regional Manager for the country / countries in Asia Pacific which the ASLO has responsibility for.

This Co-ordinator will support the ASLO and Regional Manager in building and sustaining relationships with the host government(s) and other key stakeholders in order to help deliver core objectives of improving aviation security standards in-country.

The successful candidate will need to be a self-starter with ability to multi-task and manage office budgets. Additionally, the candidate will be engaged in the delivery of capacity development projects in Indonesia including organising training and managing the distribution and maintenance of DfT loaned equipment. This will require a high degree of stakeholder engagement skills, an awareness of local protocols and issues, project management, financial management, working with senior officials from the host government and collaborating with senior colleagues both in London and at UK Diplomatic Missions. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential.

The successful candidate will directly support the ASLO in-country as well as providing wider support to the Regional Manager and team in London and may be expected to take on a more regional role.

The successful candidate may be expected to contribute to the work of the CT hub and collaborate closely with other government departments. There may be some travel within the country / countries covered.

Bahasa Language skills are required.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

This role focuses on supporting the resident ASLO and Regional Manager with aviation security issues in the host country.

A key part of the work involves diplomacy and liaison with the various Host State government authorities on wide ranging aviation security issues.

The ASLO has frequent contact with colleagues in other UK missions overseas, international missions in the Host State, across the Country Network, and with airlines and security providers operating in the region. The successful candidate will be required to manage the office and support the ASLOs accross the range of the business.



The post holder will manage the ASLO Office, working closely with Corporate Services, DfT colleagues in London, the Host Government(s) and other countries’ aviation security teams as well as airlines and security companies.

As part of their responsibilities, the post holder will assist in managing a portfolio of aviation security projects (that will include aviation security training, staff mentoring and the provision of security equipment). The Officer may also be required to provide aviation security advice to key stakeholders.


Providing effective and efficient office support to the ASLO and Regional Manager including record keeping; organising meetings/events; drafting of Note Verbales and other formal correspondence.
Leading on all administrative procedures: with telephone and email enquiries.
Initiating project proposals and taking responsibility for their planning, financial management and delivery;
To help manage, implement and evaluate ASLO aviation security projects on a timely basis in the Region;
Monitoring, assessing, evaluating and reporting on local aviation security standards and procedures (particularly during or following capacity building assistance);
Monitoring and assessing local media and other sources for news and developments in aviation security;
Providing advice and briefing to key stakeholders on aviation security matters in the region;
Providing cover and links to the ASLOs when on leave/official business;
Translating and interpreting in Bahasa during training and meetings.
Essential qualifications and experience


The successful candidate will be organised, politically astute and able to identify, develop and manage key relationships to achieve UK Aviation Security objectives in the region;

The Officer may be occasionally be required to represent the ASLO and the DfT at meetings with senior personnel;

Good communication and proven stakeholder skills are therefore essential;
Candidates should also have the ability to think logically/laterally, project manage and be able to display sound judgement and common sense;
Management of budgets.
A keen sense of honesty, integrity and confidentiality
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team and be adaptable to the working environment
Good IT skills and experience, including MS Office
A positive attitude to working flexible hours, able to work on own initiative
Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia

Proven team working skills;

Candidates should be able to write and speak fluently in both English and the Bahasa. Short listed candidates will need to pass a language exam;

Desirable qualifications and experience


A willingness and ability to travel.

There is a requirement for a small amount of travel around the Host States and/or the region and potentially to London to attend the ASIO divisional meeting;

Previous diplomatic experience.
