2 x Safety Advisors , Iraq/Turkey

Location: based in Duhuk Iraq  and Gaziantep Turkey
Closing date: 07 Aug 2017

We are now seeking 2 (two) experienced professionals to join our team as Safety Advisors in Northern and Eastern Syria to be based in Ganziatep (Turkey) and Dohuk (Iraq) respectively.

Job Summary
Safety Advisors are highly rewarding roles, offering a unique opportunity to work in a close knit team giving security analysis and advice that is not only some of the best of its kind, but that is also vital to the efforts of the NGO community to deliver aid and assistance to the thousands of people who need it. Successful candidates will be outgoing and resilient, with the ability to analyse complex security issues and contexts, give sound practical safety and security advice, communicate to an excellent standard of English both verbally and in writing, and above all else share INSO’s commitment to humanitarian principles.

Safety Advisor – North Location: Gaziantep, Turkey

Northern Syria has become a microcosm for the conflict at large, with all of its central actors – the government of Syria, organised armed groups, Kurdish forces, the Islamic State, and international powers – fighting among and between themselves along intersecting frontlines. The North Safety Advisor plays a key role in supporting NGOs to navigate this environment at a time of fast moving changes to the context and mounting challenges to humanitarian access.

Safety Advisor – East Location: Dohuk, Iraq

Eastern Syria presents a demanding operational environment for NGOs, with contested frontlines, Islamic State attacks behind them, and inter-communal dynamics exposing humanitarians to significant risk as they work to reach people in need. Nowhere is this more apparent than Ar-Raqqa, where the US backed campaign to re-take Ar-Raqqa City from IS has entered its final stage. The East SA plays a key role in supporting NGOs to meet these challenges and enabling humanitarian operations from the growing Northeast Syria response hub.
