Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille) and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE).The France Network is looking for a Security Officer based in Paris.
• Supervising the control of access to our buildings.
• Supervising security procedures.
• Locking and unlocking procedures.
• Supervising contractors as and when required.
• Security patrols.
• Monitoring the CCTV and alarm systems.
• Being the Embassy's first point of contact (phone and physical) during silent hours.
• Handling UK Nationals in difficulty in accordance with procedures.
• This job entails shift work, including nights and weekends.
• Overtime to replace colleagues during holidays or periods of sick-leave and to supervise out-of-hours receptions forms an integral part of this position.
• Successful candidates will be required to provide certain information to the Embassy in order to obtain confidential security clearance.
Essential qualifications and experience
• Professional proficiency in English and ability to communicate effectively in French.
• Proven track record of working well in a team but also autonomously.
• Ability to work shift patterns (including nights, weekends and bank holidays) and to be flexible regarding taking on extra shifts to cover colleague’s absences.
• Strong customer service skills as the security officer is often the first point of contact.
• Proven track record of making quick and effective decisions.
• Punctuality and excellent personal presentation.
Desirable qualifications and experience
• First aid trained.
• Previous experience in a security environment (private, military or police)

Other benefits and conditions of employment
In addition to this starting salary there are duty payment allowances and the possibility of overtime payments which we expect to add approximately 20-30% (400-600 €) on average to this gross monthly salary.
On the job training with specific sessions in forgery, first aid, fire evacuation and vehicle checking.
All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at www.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.
