Security Referent

Location: 60% on mission / 40% in INTERSOS Offices of Rome or Beirut or Nairobi
Closing date: 22 Mar 2017


Reporting to: Secretary General (SG)
Starting date: June 2017
Duration of contract: 1 year (renewable)

Tasks and responsibilities
To assist the Secretary General on the design, implementation, review and updating of the securities protocols and policies, acting as focal point for the organization on the safety and security management of the programme operations. The Security Referent is a member of the Secretary General office and is a permanent member of the Crisis Management Team.

Specifically the Security Referent is responsible for:

Supporting the SG on the development/revision of Security and Risk Management policies and SOPs, following up their rolling out phase and the correct application;

Supporting the Regional Directors (RDs-Programmes’ Department) and HoMs ensuring compliance with the adopted Security and Risk Management Plan and in developing quality tools, mission’s security methodologies and monitoring that the procedures are properly and uniformly applied in all the missions;

Undertaking frequent field missions, to monitor the correct implementation of the security procedures and undertake ad hoc training to the relevant field key staff;

Following up in coordination with the RDs and HoMs the regular updating of the missions security documents;

Supervising the correct and regular submission of the incident reports by the field missions and draft regular analytics reports;

Following Risk Management trends and benchmark/networking with other organisations;

Capitalising experience and developing ad hoc papers on the organisation experience;

Coordinating with the logistic and procurement Unit for the standardization of the physical assets.

Required profile/experience


· Relevant Master in Security, Crisis Management, etc. ;
· Degree in Security and risk Management or International Cooperation;
· Thorough understanding of and experience with humanitarian interventions (minimal 5 years of field/HQ experience);· Fluent written and spoken English/French, Italian is an asset;
· IT literacy;
· Leadership, people management, teamwork and flexibility;
· Extensive knowledge of security analysis and management in humanitarian contexts;
· Capacity to develop and implement the appropriate security tools;
· Very good communication, negotiating and networking abilities;
· High level of integrity and sound judgment.
