Description of Assignment
a. Objective
Based on the needs assessment developed in the first phase of the project by country experts and researchers, the trainer has to understand and acknowledge the needs identified on the ground in order to design the training materials and to implement the training according to the current context, risks, needs and challenges from the ground.
The training on this topic “Demobilization. Disarmament. Social Reintegration of Former Combatants” is due to take place end of March/beginning of April 2017. The duration of the training is 4-5 days. The exact date and the location of the training will be agreed with the selected trainer.
Based on the needs assessment report done within the project, the trainer has to prepare and deliver one training in Turkey on the following topic:
Demobilization. Disarmament. Social Reintegration of Former Combatants in Syria, with focus on challenges, risks, means for dealing with conflict, empowering former combatants, local and national models
b. Tasks to be accomplished
Develop a detailed training design based on the recommendations from the needs assessment on Demobilization. Disarmament. Social Reintegration of Former Combatants. (topic of the sessions, learning objectives, methods, instruments)
Elaborate the training materials (training syllabus, visual support, hand-out)
Assess the skills of the beneficiaries (entry test, final test of the beneficiaries)
Prepare a training activity report
Implement the training activity (4-5 days for 10 Syrian professionals)
Evaluation of the training based on evaluation forms of the participants (to be included in the training activity report)
Contribution in selecting the beneficiaries for the training (through dissemination, outreach, access to different networks in Syria and in the neighboring countries, professional contacts)

Profile of the Candidate: Required Expertise and Profile
Prospective independent trainers must have the following qualification profile:
at least 5 years of professional experience in conflict areas on transition-related issues
at least a Bachelor or a higher degree in social sciences, peace and conflict studies, mediation, communication, development studies, political studies, diplomacy or international relations, economics (with focus on war economy)
a proven interest and understanding of the current crisis in Syria
excellent analytical, judgement and communication skills
demonstrated experience in capacity building activities especially in the Middle Eastern context
demonstrated experience in topics related to DDR ( preferably in the Middle East)
demonstrated understanding of the Syrian crisis, conflict dynamics and conflict sensitivities
access to Syrian professionals in the Middle East
good written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic (preferably Arabic native speaker)
Note: Priority will be given to Syrian or Arab candidates from the Middle East fulfilling the required expertise and profile as trainers on Demobilization. Disarmament. Reintegration of Former Combatants.
