Your task
ICRC delegates to the police and security forces work as part of one or several delegation(s) depending on the number of countries they are tasked to cover. He/she is responsible for contributing to the dialogue of the delegations with the police or security forces with a dual aim: to enhance understanding of the ICRC's role and its operational procedures among these forces; and support national efforts for the dissemination or integration of human rights law and humanitarian principles.
Selection requirements
- Ideal age: 35 to 55 years
- Available for a period of minimum 2 years (renewable)
- Prepared to accept unaccompanied postings if required
- Very good command of English and fluency in another ICRC working language used in the field such as French, Spanish, Arabic or Russian. In addition, a good command of French is a distinct asset for career development within the ICRC, as French is an institutional language
- Police Officer or relevant University Degree (ex.: justice, criminology, sociology, psychology)
- Minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in Police-related positions (or equivalent such as Gendarmerie or another policing/law enforcement agency) - amongst which minimum 5 years' experience encompassing at least two of the following fields: Training, Crowd Control, Judicial/Criminal investigation or Special Tactics.
- Minimum 1 year of deployment abroad in a relevant position (international Rule of Law mission, Police training, UNPOL, etc)
- Good knowledge of the principles and applicability of Human Rights and the use of force and firearms
- Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is an asset
- Fully conversant with common IT tools
- Driving license for manual transmission vehicles
