Your task
The ICRC delegate to armed forces and armed groups is responsible for
contributing to the analysis, dialogue and operational effects of the
delegation(s) they are tasked to cover, with the aims being to:

What we offer
- Enhance understanding of the ICRC's role and how it operates, among military forces and non-state armed groups (NSAGs), in order to further the ICRC’s acceptance, security and access
- Protect and assist the victims of armed conflict through the bespoke design and delivery of Law of Armed Conflict/International Humanitarian Law and customary law approaches or programmes, fully adapted to their operational context and audience
Selection requirements
- Ideal age: 35 to 55 years
- Available for a period of minimum 2 years (renewable)
- Prepared to accept unaccompanied postings if required
- Very good command of English and fluency in another ICRC working language used in the field such as French, Spanish, Arabic or Russian. In addition, a good command of French would be beneficial for career development within the ICRC, as French is an institutional language
- Senior officer (minimum rank of Major) with a minimum of two years’ accumulated operational experience
- Knowledge and practical experience of the Law of Armed Conflict/International Humanitarian Law including Rules of Engagement
- First-hand experience with the ICRC/Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement in the field
- Knowledge of International Human Rights Law as applicable to operations is an asset
- Fully conversant with common IT tools
- Driving license for manual transmission vehicles

- Charismatic speaker and confident instructor, sound capacity to network and negotiate
- Able to work calmly and inspire confidence among colleagues when under pressure and in potentially dangerous situations
- Ready to travel
