 Post Description:
The  Scanner Operator (SCO) is responsible for providing granted access to  KAIA ,via RS Military entry control points, for : people, luggage, vehicles.  He/she is also responsible for providing Air Transport Security (ATSy) in the Passenger Reception Center (PRC).  Force Protection (FP) SCOs provide the highest possible FP standards for RS and Coalition Forces operating in Afghanistan at KAIA APOD by detecting threats at the gates and at the PRC.
 Principle Duties:
Operate vehicle, personnel and baggage scanners, to grant authorized and secure access to personnel, cars and trucks. In addition any other means necessary to find unauthorized objects and threat items, which will include:
      1.Sitting and focusing for extended periods of time when conducting screening.
      2.Standing for long periods of time.
      3.Lifting and carrying baggage and other items if required up to 25-30 kg.
      4.Use of X-ray equipment for detecting both metallic and non-metallic objects.
      5.Identify and to have knowledge of:
                  a.grenades and other fragmentation/blast/smoke munitions;
                  b.explosives, military and commercial;-          
                  c.detonators and timing devices
                  d.ammunition of all calibers
                  e.electrical and electronic items including power sources
Operate baggage scanners within the PRC to ensure the safety of the aircraft and its passengers by identifying prohibited and restricted/hazardous items.
Be aware of all regulations regarding prohibited items on aircraft.
Be aware of all regulations concerning the use of scanners within the compound
Ensure that all scanning activities/operations are completed in a professional and safe manner
Be able to co-ordinate with supporting FP personnel in the manual/visual searches of vehicles
Produces daily reports of scanning activities
Produces updates about failure of and problems with the scanning equipment
Updates the "log books" (for all scanning equipment)
Maintains operational readiness of SCO vehicles and equipment
 
Additional Duties:
The requirement to work outside normal hours (shift-work) and any other allocated work locations.
Deliver on-the-job lessons, briefings, etc., as required
Perform other related duties, as directed by Chief Scanner Operator through the Scanner Operator Supervisor
 
Essential Qualifications:
Professional/Experience:
Working experience and good knowledge of different types of scanning equipment consisting of personnel scanner, luggage scanner and vehicle scanner. 
Knowledge of Walk Through Metal Detectors and Hand Held Metal Detectors.
Experience as a Scanner Operator/Screener , Force Protection, Military Police, EOD, C-IED and/or ATSy.     
 
Education/Training:
      Higher Secondary education or equivalent
      Driver B
 
Language:
English: Good level of written and spoken language skills.
Note: The normal working language within the organisation is English.

Contribution to Objectives:
The incumbent provides the highest level of service and support to all KAIA civilian and military staff and visitors to KAIA. 
The work has direct impact on Security at entrance points (ECG and NG) to KAIA and overall Air Transport Security within RS (Intra -Theatre and International flights).
Work Environment
RS KAIA is a Military APOD within Kabul International Airport on the outskirts of Kabul.
High psychological strain and risk depending on operational tempo, current and projected threats, absence of family and friends, and distance and/or communication difficulties with the same.
Living conditions in Kabul are rudimentary with lodging on the military compound and governed by military rules.
Majority of the work will be completed in an open air environment.  This will include exposure to extremes of noises associated with aircraft operations, and seasonal weather such as dust, sun, wind and snow.
Afghanistan is a post conflict environment and with this is a constant threat of terrorist activities which may affect operations and living conditions on KAIA.
Working in the entrance gates to KAIA will expose the SCO personnel to higher risks than when they are working in the PRC.
Possible risk to life and limb, e.g. due to explosions, explosive flames, toxic fumes, chemicals and radioactive materials.
 At the entrance gates to KAIA it is mandatory for the personnel to wear body armour and helmet while working in accordance with the current FP regulations.

Additional Remarks:
An initial 12 month contract will be offered and contract extensions may be possible.  Because of the dynamic environment, RS posts are under regular review and therefore post details and responsibilities, including contract duration and contractual grade may change during the advertising and contractual period.
Benefit Package:
Monthly salary of € 5,526.00 (Tax free in the host country).
Daily Allowance of € 82.93 while working in Afghanistan.
Installation allowance of ½ initial monthly basic salary.
Start and End of Contract paid transportation from residence to theatre and return.
Two days of annual leave per month.
7 days "Leave from Theatre" plus reimbursement of travel expenses up to 1000 Euro for every 6 months spent in Theatre.
Medical Insurance from Van Breda International (including death and disability coverage), small fee charged plus 50% of monthly premium covered by RS HQ.
Free accommodation in the camp.
Meals of good/reasonable quality available to purchase.
Laundry is at a nominal charge through the contracted laundry company.
Clothing Allowance of 400 Euro per year.
Medical and Immunization package prior to deployment.
Meal allowance 2.33 EUR per day.
