Description
The World Concern Regional Security Advisor will be charged with the responsibility of developing specific security procedures, plans and strategies that will foster safety, security and protection of staff in the Africa Region, ensuring compliance with organizational safety and security policies and procedures.
He /She will liaise with relevant actors who can inform or affect WC’s security and establish good
communications and information management systems minimizing personal, operational and organizational risk in WC program areas.
Responsibilities
Ensure the Country/Program Safety and Security Plans are relevant and up to date.
Initiate and facilitate Country/Program Risk Assessments as appropriate
Monitor the civil, political, military, religious and physical climate in each of our operational
areas.
Analyze information noting trends and patterns and advice the area Director and Country
Directors when situations have improved.
Ensure that the Duty Officer(s) and Security Focal Points are properly briefed, trained and are
carrying out their responsibilities
Establish and monitor compliance of security & safety guidelines for the Africa Regional Office, all field offices, and expatriates residential places.
Work with the Corporate Security Advisor to maintain MOSS compliance
Network with other NGO’s, INGO’s, Inter-agency security meetings, UN agencies and gov’t agencies to develop a broad information exchange network.
Advise the Crisis Management Team during times of increased security risks.
Develop a regional security management framework
Advice CD’s on the appropriate security strategy in each area of operation according to the
risks identified.
Facilitate emergency procedures including evacuation, medi-vac, hibernation or relocation as necessary. Train other staff members on emergency procedures.
With support with the Corporate Security Advisor, develop security assessment and analysis tools for use by the staff
Travel to field locations to conduct physical security assessments, gather information or provide trainings to field staff.
Advise management on use of appropriate communications equipment/technology
Prepare and give security briefings to new staff and visitors to offices/programs.
In close coordination with HR and the area director, evaluate and recommend appropriate security trainings or capacity building opportunities for staff. Ensure that staff takes advantage of safety and security trainings, real-time and online, appropriate to their positions and function.
Debrief security incidents with area director, country directors and all staff involved, ensure incident report forms and procedures are completed speedily and fully, and make recommendations as appropriate.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Key competencies
Degree in Security Management/Administration or any technical/business discipline; General knowledge of Kenyan Laws and Government Regulations pertaining to law enforcement.
Extensive security training from recognized institutions of learning
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and general computer skills
Two years Practical experience of security assessment, planning and implementation of procedures in the context of UN or NGO humanitarian operations preferably in a Muslim context.
High level of confidentiality
Previous experience in team leadership and strong interpersonal skills
Proven experience in communication networking and use of HF and VHF radios
Strong cross-cultural, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
In sympathy with Christian values and a commitment to embrace and engage with the Christian identity and philosophy of World Concern
Excellent written and spoken English & Swahili
Experience is writing policies and procedures.
Written and spoken French, Arabic or Somali language is preferred though not required.
Working Conditions
Frequent travel from Nairobi to the project areas in S. Sudan, Kenya, Chad, Somalia &
others.
Occasional international travel.
Living conditions in the field may be marginalized, hostile and harsh.

Normal working hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday but may be required to
work extra hours as need arises without additional expectations.
