Summary of Position
Panthera seeks a qualified Law Enforcement Advisor (LEA) to support the Law Enforcement Specialist (LES) and Tiger Program Directors in our Law Enforcement activities in Southeast Asia. The successful candidate will provide assistance in the management and oversight of Tigers Forever site threat assessments and training of Law Enforcement and Anti-poaching teams. The LEA will be expected to deliver well-structured reports that highlight security issues, threats, and key interventions. The position will require working closely with the LES to deliver short and long-term
improvements, build capacity, and help raise skill levels of our partner Law Enforcement teams. The LEA is expected to have excellent communication skills as liaison with project partners is key. Frequent travel to field sites will be required.
Responsibilities:
Support the LES in planning and executing comprehensive site assessment (recognizing current security threat) and training packages (to include the full spectrum of rural Law Enforcement patrol and planning skills), across all Tigers Forever sites. Develop long and short-term priorities to support the needs of the Law Enforcement program.
Liaise and work with in-country partner staff.
Manage special projects as assigned by the LES or Program Directors.
Represent Panthera across all Tigers Forever sites and ensure that the delivery of Tigers Forever protocol is correct and conveyed as required.
Supervise and ensure site assessments and training packages are professionally conducted and delivered.
Supervise and train in country Law Enforcement staff as required.
Assist in the procurement and delivery of high level Law Enforcement/conservation surveillance technology.
Deliver monthly reports on work to LES.
Provide monthly financial reports of expenditure (assist with budgetary requirement when required).
Work closely with other LEA’s to ensure viability and recognition and long term success.
Assist in developing and implementing Law Enforcement annual work plan.
Work closely with LES to manage Law Enforcement component of the annual Tigers Forever meeting.
Qualifications
Proven experience in the Law Enforcement arena (Military, intelligence, police, anti-poaching).
Proven operational ‘on the ground’ experience (rural/urban).
Experience as a trainer in rural operations (training program development/management also important).
Excellent inter-personal skills.
Knowledge/experience/understanding of current conservation (illegal wildlife trade) issues.
Able to work abroad on a regular basis, living and working under difficult conditions, occasionally as the sole non-native.
