UXO Technician

Job Responsibilities
In addition to being capable of fully performing all of the UXO Sweep Personnel and UXO Technician I functions, UXO Technician II personnel may be required to:
• Properly store explosive materials per applicable guidance
• Determine precise location in field environment using a variety of techniques such as use of global
positioning equipment, or basic land navigation techniques using topographical map and compass.
• Perform field collection procedures to identify contaminated soil
• Prepare an on-site holding area to temporarily stow MEC that has an acceptable risk of movement
• Operate modes of transportation for transporting UXO, for which the risk of movement has been determined acceptable, when appropriate
• Perform limited technical supervision of UXOSP
• Escort personnel who are not directly involved in UXO-related operations (e.g., personnel performing environmental monitoring), but have activities to perform within exclusion areas
• Inspect MPPEH for the presence of explosives safety hazards
• In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position
Basic Qualifications
• Ability to communicate in written and verbal formats
• Must be able to perform all principal accountabilities of UXO Tech I
• Competent in use of personal data assistants (PDAs)
• Divers conducting underwater detection and identification of munitions must have completed both the basic and the underwater portions of NAVSCOLEOD (or foreign equivalent) training
• 40-hour HAZWOPER training and annual 8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher training
• Three years of progressively responsible experience in EOD, UXO, range clearance and/or other munitions response operationsEducation
This position requires a high school diploma and must be a graduate of US Naval EOD School, acceptable Allied Nation EOD school (Great Britain, Germany, Australia, Canada) or accredited UXO Technician Level I training program and with appropriate experience as required by Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board (DDESB) Technical Paper (TP) 18. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
• An Explosives Blaster’s License for the multiple states
• A commercial Drivers License with HAZMAT endorsement
• Proficiency in operating a certain types mechanical equipment, such as dozer, back hoe, loader, track hoe, and gravel sifting plants
• Construction Safety Certification
• Experienced in sifting operations
• First Aid training
• Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
