Corrections Advisor II / Corrections Training SME

Job Summary
Responsible for Mexico-based operational support of assigned DynCorp International (DI) program CJPS to initiate national reforms for improving the Mexican Federal Penitentiary system.

Job Duties & Responsibilites
• Support, assist and advise INL/NAS and the GOM in the continuing development of the National Corrections Training Academy Program.
• Assist the GOM in creating and maintaining correctional systems that are safe, secure, humane, transparent and conform to internationally accepted standards for correctional institutions
• Evaluate and assess the training requirements in the Mexican federal penitentiary system, to ensure that the instruction provided meets international training standards.
• Coordinate the development and implementation of the training elements of the accreditation program.
• Support the correctional accreditation effort in developing and implementing professional training standards for corrections staff that meet or exceed international standards.
• Coordinate with the GOM in developing a training plan to deliver on-site instruction at designated state and federal prisons.
• Serve as an advisory resource for INL program managers in Washington and in the field on specific aspects of the planning and implementation of ongoing corrections assistance programs.

Knowledge & Skills
• Ability to communicate in English (level 3 written, level 3 reading comprehension, level 3 speaking)
• Ability to communicate in Spanish (level 3 written, level 3 reading comprehension, level 3 speaking)
• Negotiation, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Ability and willingness to train other individuals in their area of expertise.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Experience & Education
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for each year served in U.S. corrections at the rank of associate/deputy warden (or the equivalent)
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in corrections curriculum development and/or academy administration at an academy that is certified by a POST commission or equivalent.
• Prefer at least two (2) years of experience working on international corrections issues and reform, including working overseas in the corrections development field.
• Graduation from a U.S. federal or state corrections or probation officer academy certified by a POST commission or equivalent, and of at least 120 hours in length
• 7 years as a corrections officer in the United States, with at least 2 years at the rank of Sergeant or equivalent.
• Must have a demonstrated track record of accomplishment in training other corrections officers.
• Must be able to possess/maintain MRPT Clearance
• Valid U.S. passport

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
• Ability to perform key responsibilities under conditions which may include: limited supervision and resources, personal security risks, conflicting and changing priorities.
• Must be able to pass and maintain the physical, psychological and medical requirements set forth by the contract.

Travel : Must be available to travel internationally to potential austere environments.
