Position Summary:
The K-9 Handler perform a variety of force protection duties in providing 24-hour explosive/drug detection capabilities throughout the assigned ASG-KU AOR.
Major Job Activities:
1.Perform the day to day protective security functions as specified in daily post and detail orders.
2.Explosive ordnance detection.
3.Prevent the unauthorized introduction of explosive devices or explosives.
4.Maintain dogs training records to meet contract requirements and certifications.
5.Maintain sanitary conditions of kennels.
6.Perform other duties as assigned.
Material and Equipment Used Directly:
Contract Working Dog, leash and choke chain and vehicle.
Working Environment:
K-9 Handlers are responsible for searching for unauthorized explosives/drugs, at designated ECP’s and other locations on ASG-KU facilities and for Random patrol activities. Work is generally conducted in an Outdoor environment with a potential exposure to extreme temperatures. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
Physical Activites:
K-9 Handler must be available to search for unauthorized explosive/drugs for 12 hour shifts 6 days a week and be on call to respond to emergencies at the northern and southern camps 24hr a day. Work may require heavy lifting up, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents.
Required Experience: Experience:
A minimum of three-years experience working a military or civilian explosive dog.
Desired Skills: Skills:
Handler must be able certify and maintain training to ensure odor proficiency of their explosive working dog.
