This key role supports the Head of Security in delivering the security risk management processes and systems required to protect assets, staff, visitors, readers and service partners at all British Library London sites.
You will be required to lead, manage and motivate both in-house and contract security staff, with particular focus on ensuring that the BL’s front line security team delivers high standards of security, 24 /7. Critical management areas include: the development and monitoring of departmental operational procedures and processes; the delivery of the highest possible standards of customer service; staff development and training; and absence management.
An experienced Security Manager within a corporate or public sector environment, you will need to demonstrate: a thorough understanding and knowledge of security management issues at large heritage sites; a track record of managing both contract and in-house security teams; the ability and the personal authority to take decisive actions when risk limits have been breached; a track record as an effective communicator; the ability to proactively management and influence staff behaviour; and the ability to interact effectively in a wide range of situations and with varying audiences. Formal management / security management qualifications an advantage.
Working hours will normally be 41 hours a week, Monday to Saturday, and will include both early and late working.
