Security Manager ,Australian High Commision, Kenya


The Australian High Commission is seeking applications from highly motivated and
organised individuals for the Position of SECURITY MANAGER.  The successful applicant
will be required to manage security operations at the High Commission and official
residential accommodation.
DUTIES
As Security Manager, the successful applicant will be required to perform the following duties:
 Ensure that Post Security Instructions and guarding standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
are understood and practised by all guards on an ongoing basis;
 Provide direction and advice to guard supervisors and supervise and direct contract security
guards at the High Commission and residences;
 Manage implementation and ongoing assessment/review of security guard contract and
explosives detection dog contract;
 Supervise the Security Contract Liaison Officer (SCLO) position;
 Conduct random inspections and audits of the guarding services at all sites;
 Ensure all security guards are correctly equipped and trained;
 Manage security projects such as major and minor chancery upgrades and security
improvements to residences;
 Make recommendations on further physical security improvement;
 Complete security surveys on proposed new lease accommodation;
 Manage the security budget under the supervision of the Finance Manager  – plan, monitor
and make adjustments as necessary;
 Assess hotel, serviced apartment accommodation and conference venues as necessary;
 Ensure that all security equipment is used and maintained;
 Report failures in security equipment, fencing, lighting, guarding and other areas if
appropriate.
 Be available to work out of hours in security emergency situation;
 Manage and supervise security arrangements during high level visits;
 Provide regular updates on current security issues in Kenya and the region;
 Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with relevant Government agencies,
friendly missions and contract guarding company: and
 Coordinate regular training for staff and guards, develop internal training programs and
manage visits by contracted security trainers.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Requirements for the position include:
i. Demonstrable experience in the security field, preferably including management and
coordination of security operations in the police, military, public or private sector;
ii. Organisational and time management skills of the highest order and the ability to
coordinate staff workloads to achieve maximum flexibility and efficiency in an
environment where continuous improvement is highly valued;   iii. Information Technology skills including full use of the Microsoft Office suite of
applications is required;
iv. A strong and demonstrable understanding of the importance of client service;
v. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including in day-to-day consultation,
liaison, negotiation.  Demonstrated sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills and
ability to build productive working relationships;
vi. Ability to take initiative, adapt and respond to challenges, and set priorities;
vii. Ability and interest to work in an international context and cross-cultural environment.
Previous experience living or working overseas will be viewed positively: and
viii. Capacity to work with limited supervision.
A relevant university or college degree will be well regarded.
SALARY PACKAGE
Starting monthly salary range  will be from KES249,000 to KES338,000 per month, depending on
qualifications and experience (note: applicants recruited from overseas may be offered assistance with
relocation).  The successful applicant will be employed on a six month probationary contract initially
with performance-based opportunity for long term employment at the Australian High Commission.
Other benefits include full medical insurance, performance and annual bonuses and 4 weeks leave per
year. The successful candidate will be required to work from Monday to Thursday from 0745hrs to
1630hrs and Fridays from 0745 hrs to 1200hrs.  He or she will also need to be available for occasional
overtime as required.
