ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The SERE resistance instructor is responsible to conduct Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) Level C course instruction, course development and course administration including completing student training reports and forms, logistical, operational and administrative activities for SERE Academics, field training, resistance training, and evasion training; research and keep current on new technology and doctrinal developments in order to support efforts to improve the quality and scope of training; analyze course content and evaluation of student performance and recommendations in the designated implementation of instruction;
provide motivational and remedial advice and counseling for students regarding SERE training issues. Resistance instructors will be thoroughly knowledgeable and skilled in the TRADOC-approved Systems Approach to Training (SAT) methodologies, including evaluations, analysis, design, development and implementation of individual and collective training plans, lesson plans, training scenarios and Program of Instruction (POIs); have a working background in instructional methodology with the ability to prepare and maintain POIs, lesson plans and training aids (including any/all associated computer-based programs), and the skills to present academic, laboratory, and operational lessons; provide subject matter expertise in SERE subjects such as: CSEL radio operations, Global Positioning Systems (GPS)/map reading, land navigation, survival methods/techniques, preparation of fish and game, plant identification, escape and evasion, air/sea/land exfiltration, cross cultural communications, physical and psychological aspects of captivity, clandestine communication, escape planning, resistance to exploitation, interrogation and the U.S. Military Code of Conduct. The SERE resistance instructor will accompany personnel into the field/Resistance Training Lab to provide 24 hour per day, three consecutive days training exercise support; possess the necessary training and experience to conduct classroom instruction and role play in resistance training scenarios; possess the ability to apply various captor exploitation efforts, to include: interrogation (eight methods), indoctrination, propaganda, video propaganda, concessions, forced labor, and reprisals; have the ability to analyze, evaluate, and assess student’s knowledge and ability to employ resistance and escape strategies in a simulated captivity environment to include wartime, peacetime Governmental detention, and hostage scenarios. The SERE resistance instructor will be knowledgeable in individual and group resistance postures, techniques and strategies, establishing overt and covert organizations, establishing overt and covert communications, and planning and executing escapes in all captivity environments – wartime, peacetime Governmental detention, and terrorist hostage; capable of applying pressures IAW DOD and Army Level C SERE training guidelines; knowledgeable in emerging core captivity guidance, and have the ability to adapt survival principles to satisfy needs during captivity.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
The SERE resistance instructor must possess the physical skills and abilities necessary to perform under high levels of physical and mental stress in the performance of normal duties in
austere conditions; participate in SERE field training exercises in rough terrain, requiring adequate physical fitness to be able to lift/carry 45 pounds, walk up to six miles per day with a rucksack, and provide up to eight consecutive hours of instruction. Candidates will be a graduate of a DOD approved Level C SERE Full Spectrum course including wartime and Peacetime Governmental Detention and Hostage Detention (PGD/HD), as a combined course or having graduated separately from each of the courses (any Service); successfully completed an approved DOD Instructor Trainer’s Course, or equivalent (TRADOC approved instructor-training course while on active duty - JRTIC, SERE IQC).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
The preferred candidate should be lifeguard qualified.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a Secret level security clearance verifiable through the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) and be a U.S. Citizen. Periodic shift work and support over weekends and holidays is required; "duty day" may vary in length depending upon the training scenario, time required to complete the same, and the method of instruction utilized.
