Head of Security Services - U.K

Salary: £45k - £55k PA

Providing strong operational leadership and strategic direction to our Security Services department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the University of Surrey is safe place in which to study, work, and visit.

As a member of our senior leadership team, you’ll be acknowledged as a professional expert in the field, and the primary source of security advice.


Enjoying a significant degree of autonomy, and managing the departmental budget, you’ll be fully accountable for the quality and professionalism of service delivery and development.

This post has an impact on the lives of everyone at the University, so naturally you’ll be presented with a wide variety of problems and unique issues to resolve. The role is particularly student focused with welfare issues and understanding of student needs and problems a priority. Working closely with the county council, police and security organisations to promote our security strategy and awareness activities, you’ll be an important ambassador for the University. You’ll build strong relationships and share knowledge and best practice that will improve the safety and wellbeing of us all.

Your team will have a broad remit – from the provision of 24 hour security coverage by uniformed officers and CCTV control, through support for student and staff health and safety, to crime and matters of national security.

The service you lead will be equally effective whether acting pre-emptively or responsively. You will play a crucial role in ensuring all security personnel are equipped to make correct judgements with confidence.

Ideally qualified to degree level, you’ll certainly have a broad track record of relevant experience in security management and leadership roles. In addition to highly developed, up-to-date knowledge in the broad field of security, including systems, services, principles and practice, you’ll demonstrate a specific understanding of issues, regulations, procedures, and the implications of non-compliance in the field of university security.

A driven and organised leader, you are a skilled strategic thinker with excellent team working, analytical, relationship building and customer service abilities.
