Chemonics International seeks a Washington-based security director to lead our Afghanistan and Pakistan Security Management Unit that supports overseas security staff and security platforms. The unit works to ensure the safety and security of project staff, mitigate corporate liability and risk to personnel and assets, and facilitate the overall success of projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded security expert who understands the complexities of security management in both a corporate and overseas setting. Responsibilities include:
-Develop strategies to continuously improve and refine security management systems for effectiveness and efficiency, considering client needs, team dynamics, division, and corporate mission
-Conceptualize, articulate, and lead strategic planning for technical support both in the Washington office and overseas
-Advise senior management as a subject matter expert on all matters relating to security in
Afghanistan and Pakistan
-Supervise and manage all security staff, including country security directors, and security-related activities in Afghanistan and Pakistan
-Provide vision and leadership in new business activities specific to security planning and implementation
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
-Minimum six years of technically relevant work experience in the field of security
-Proven effectiveness implementing security platforms for civilian operations in conflict zones, to include successful crisis management
-Strong, demonstrated knowledge of USAID policies, procedures, and culture both within the organization and overseas
-Demonstrated project experience with USAID or other donors preferred
-Demonstrated knowledge of project management, procurement, and contracts
-Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage significant activities, budgets, and resources to produce and take responsibility for results
-Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, and other initiatives
-Ability to solve complex technical, managerial or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge
-Afghanistan or Middle East experience preferred
-Experience living or working in developing countries preferred
-Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
-Demonstrated independent and critical thinking and judgment
-Willing to work overseas for up to four to eight weeks per year and to consider long-term overseas assignments
-Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
-Fluency in English required; fluency in a foreign language a plus
