Investigative Assistant United Nations - Nairobi Kenya

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

1) Assist in conducting interviews and research of documentary evidence collected; undertake electronic predication activity for all matters received.
2) Conduct basic research on assigned issues, using existing investigation files and alternative sources; verify facts, identify citations, precedents, issues to be addressed and draft statements of findings, respondent replies to appeals; enlist the continued cooperation of witnesses and prepare and maintain investigative files.
3) Assist in the maintenance of a body of investigation reference files including manage individual case files; conduct reference searches upon request; review material and file appropriately; participate in initiatives to enhance existing systems for records management and retrieval.
4) Assist investigators with matters under investigation: review, records; prepare flow charts and chronologies of matters under investigation.
5) Review, verify and process investigation instruments: Extract key data and update database; monitor requisite follow-up actions and approvals.
6) Handle verbal and written inquiries including providing detailed information on processes and procedures related to a range of investigation activities, instruments and issues.
7) Service meetings: Assist in the preparation of pre-in and post-session documents; coordinate with relevant units; prepare and update programme of work, delegation and documents lists; track status of meetings and monitor follow-up actions.
8) Assist in maintaining and operating the system used for safeguarding the identity of those persons who have submitted information to OIOS.
9) Maintain statistical records of investigations; monitor and track the implementation of OIOS recommendations issued to Departments; assist in drafting Annual and Semi-Annual Reports and respond to requests from Inter-Governmental bodies within the United Nations system.
