Purpose

Identify, assess, and effectively mitigate threats to BAT Algeria personnel, assets, information, operations, supply chain, and business activities through a business-integrated, risk-based security approach.
Embed Security Risk Management, Business Continuity Management, and Crisis Management processes across BAT Algeria to protect people, support business resilience, and safeguard shareholder interests.
Provide timely, practical, and intelligence-led security advice to the Algeria Leadership Team and relevant stakeholders to support informed decision-making and continuity of operations.

Principal Accountabilities

Operations / Professional / Business


Develop and deliver the BAT Algeria security plan in line with the MENA Security Strategy, Group Security requirements, and local business priorities.
Lead the implementation of Security Risk Management across BAT Algeria, ensuring that key risks are identified, assessed, documented, mitigated, reviewed, and escalated where required.
Maintain effective security coverage for BAT Algeria sites, including offices, factory operations, warehouses, trade offices, fleet, field teams, events, and business travel.
Ensure that physical security measures, access control, CCTV, intruder detection, fire detection interfaces, key management, visitor management, and related security systems remain effective, tested, and fit for purpose.
Develop, maintain, test, and improve local security procedures, site security plans, emergency response arrangements, and incident management processes.
Provide timely security intelligence, threat assessments, and travel security advice covering Algeria and any areas relevant to BAT Algeria operations.
Support business continuity planning, testing, and activation for BAT Algeria in line with Group Business Continuity Management requirements and MENA governance expectations.
Manage security incidents and investigations in coordination with Legal, CORA, HR, Compliance, Operations, and other relevant functions, ensuring that evidence is preserved and reporting requirements are met.
Ensure accurate and timely security reporting, including incidents, risk updates, BCP testing, security reviews, investigations, and agreed security KPIs.
Support the protection of BAT assets, products, information, people, and reputation against theft, fraud, sabotage, workplace violence, civil unrest, product diversion, illicit trade-related risks, and other relevant threats.

Management

Ensure compliance with BAT Security Procedure, Group policies, local laws, statutory requirements, and agreed governance processes.
Manage security service providers and ensure contractual compliance, service quality, training, deployment discipline, performance monitoring, and corrective action where required.
Plan and control security-related budgets, resources, and improvement plans in a cost-conscious manner while maintaining appropriate risk mitigation.
Ensure that security business continuity plans are documented, assigned, tracked, tested, and updated regularly.
Lead security reviews, site assessments, risk assessments, and corrective action plans across BAT Algeria locations.
Maintain effective records and documentation to support audit readiness, control assurance, and business governance requirements.
Coordinate with local management on matters involving government authorities, law enforcement, emergency services, regulatory bodies, and other relevant external parties.

Leadership

Provide visible security leadership across BAT Algeria and promote a proactive security culture among employees, contractors, and third parties.
Act as the country security lead during crises, incidents, security escalations, and business disruption events, supporting the local Crisis Management Team and escalating to MENA Security when required.
Deliver security awareness, briefings, training, and communications to improve employee preparedness and duty-of-care standards.
Lead, coach, and develop security personnel and contracted security teams to ensure effective performance and professional standards.
Drive continuous improvement in security controls, resilience planning, incident response, and stakeholder engagement.
Support the development of local security capability and succession planning where applicable.

Relationships

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Algeria Leadership Team, site leadership, functional heads, and the MENA Security team.
Build multi-functional relationships with Legal, CORA, HR, EHS, IT, Procurement, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and Commercial teams to support integrated risk management and business continuity.
Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with local law enforcement, government authorities, emergency services, security agencies, private sector counterparts, and security service providers.
Work closely with cluster, regional and global security stakeholders to ensure alignment with BAT standards, emerging risk priorities, and agreed ways of working.
Support internal and external business events by ensuring appropriate security planning, risk assessment, and stakeholder coordination.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement


Continuously monitor emerging security threats, geopolitical developments, crime trends, civil unrest indicators, and technology developments relevant to Algeria.
Recommend practical and cost-effective improvements to security systems, procedures, training, reporting, and incident response capability.
Support the integration of security considerations into digital transformation, workplace changes, supply chain changes, and business projects.
Promote a forward-looking security culture that encourages employees to act as security ambassadors and report concerns early.
Incorporate efficiency, sustainability, and risk-based decision-making into physical security arrangements and vendor management.

Security risks are properly documented, owned, mitigated, reviewed, and escalated in line with BAT governance expectations.
Business continuity and crisis management arrangements are maintained, tested, and capable of supporting effective response under different security conditions.
Security service providers deliver reliable, compliant, and professional services aligned with business needs and contractual obligations.
Security incidents are reported, investigated, managed, and closed in a timely and professional manner.
The Algeria business receives timely, practical, and risk-based security advice that enables safe and effective business operations.

Critical Knowledge, Skills, And Experience


Proven experience in risk-based security management, preferably in a multinational, manufacturing, FMCG, supply chain, military, law enforcement, or corporate security environment.
Strong knowledge of physical security, investigations, intelligence assessment, incident management, crisis management, business continuity, travel security, and security vendor management.
Ability to assess complex security risks and translate them into practical mitigation plans for business stakeholders.
Experience in conducting investigations, preserving evidence, managing sensitive information, and working with Legal, HR, Compliance, and external authorities as required.
Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate diplomatically with senior leaders, government authorities, law enforcement, and service providers.
Ability to lead people, influence without authority, manage conflicting priorities, and work under pressure during crises or sensitive incidents.
Good understanding of electronic security systems, access control, CCTV, alarms, emergency response arrangements, and site security standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in Arabic and French is required; strong English capability is required for regional reporting and engagement.
Good digital literacy and the ability to use reporting platforms, risk registers, incident management tools, and standard business applications.
High level of integrity, accountability, discretion, and personal responsibility for outcomes.
