Change starts with water. Change starts with you.

Every day, millions of people live without clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. WaterAid exists to change that – for everyone, everywhere. Join us, and your energy will help unlock people’s potential and create a fairer future.

About WaterAid
We’re a global federation driven by one vision: a world where everyone, everywhere has clean water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030. Powered by our values of Respect, Accountability, Courage, Collaboration, Integrity and Innovation, we work alongside communities, partners and supporters to make change happen.

About the team
As part of the WaterAid People Team, the Safety & Security function plays a key role in equipping and empowering our people, managers, and leaders to create safe and secure working practices in every aspect of our work. We enable the delivery of WaterAid UK’s work across 19 countries and 4 Regions. In addition, we provide tailored support to 7 international member offices in the UK, Canada, Japan, Sweden, India, Australia, and America: crafting strategic level policy, advising on procedures, and delivering training to build capacity across the organisation.

About the role
As our Global Safety & Security Coordinator, you will coordinate core safety and security processes and work closely with country programmes, regional teams, the Global Safeguarding team, and the Global Safety & Security Lead to ensure safety & security risk management systems are embedded, consistent and effective across the organisation.

As a small and collaborative team, we value open communication, curiosity, and respectful challenge. The postholder will play a key role in providing a fresh perspective and constructively questioning assumptions — especially in a context where many decisions involve complexity and risk.

This role does not require a technical security background, and your independent viewpoint will be essential to helping ensure our work is practical, inclusive, and grounded.

We recognise that in some cultures challenging a manager may feel uncomfortable or inappropriate — but please be assured that in this team, your insight and challenge will be actively encouraged and always respected. Your voice matters.

In this role, you will:Coordinate global incident reporting systems and safety & security compliance tracking
Organise logistics for global safety & security training and simulations
Support the maintenance of internal guidance, dashboards, and intranet resources
Provide surge support during real or simulated incidents and contribute to After Action Reviews
Champion WaterAid’s commitment to equity, inclusion and safeguarding.

Requirements
To be successful, you will need:
Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
Confidence to constructively challenge senior colleagues, including your manager, in a respectful and solution-focused way — especially when offering a different perspective.
Proven experience in coordination, administration, or project support in a global or cross-cultural organisation
Demonstrated ability to manage systems for tracking compliance, reporting, or risk-related data
Excellent communication and digital literacy skills, with comfort working across time zones

Although not essential, we’d prefer you to have:Experience in safety, security, safeguarding, or compliance-related work
Degree-level education or equivalent work experience
Professional working proficiency in French

Closing date: Applications close 12:00 PM UK time on 29 September 2025. Interviews may be scheduled on a rolling basis, and the role may close earlier if a suitable candidate is found.
