We are looking for a Security Manager who will be responsible for the development, administration and operation of the security program at the Chiri Diamond Project (Chiri) and the Angola Exploration programme.

The objective is to ensure the protection of employees and company assets, with an emphasis on preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. This includes building, developing, leading and supervising a team of contract Security Officers. The Security Manager also has responsibility for ensuring the consistent application and adherence to the Rio Tinto Diamond Control Standard across the various business units in close collaboration with the various members of the site senior management team.

Reporting to the Exploration Manager – Angola –, you will:Develop, maintain and coordinate all security operations at Chiri
Contribute to the on-going development and implementation of Chiri security strategic project plan
Establish internal and external security policies and procedures with third party vendors such as diamond analysis and research facilities, armoured transport services and security companies
Identify the immediate and long-term resourcing requirements for the Chiri Project
Supervise, develop, coach and coordinate the work of the security team.
Monitor the performance of security personnel ensuring that work objectives are being met in a safe and timely manner.
Conduct security investigations & regular risk audits to support leadership HR with recommendations in incident responses, emergencies and unusual situations
Develop and implement an effective emergency response plan for the Security Department including off-time & on call support
Keep current on security and asset protection technology and methods (Access control systems, CCTV camera systems and incident reporting systems)
Management of the annual budget for the security department
Ensure the timely flow of relevant information to the Chiri project senior staff.
Ensure the safe and secure transportation of diamonds from the plant site to the next required onward facility.

What you’ll bring
Degree in Security/risk management/ Criminology related degree
Minimum 10 years of working experience in security or protection services; with sector-specific experience in mining/ heavy industries
4 years or more of leadership experience, preferably in mining/ heavy industries.
Diamond industry experience and understanding of the diamond extraction process – will be beneficial
Experience in conducting sensitive and complex investigations is required
Membership in a professional association i.e (ASIS, IFPO)
Knowledge of the local Angola industry or experience within the regional diamond industry would be advantageous.
English is a core requirement and Portuguese will be highly regarded.

Where you will be working

The Role is based in Angola, the successful candidate is expected to commute to site on a roster basis, living predominantly onsite at a well-established field camp. Travel to other international sites and for meetings may be required, at times.
