The Role
In this role, you will lead all Safety & Security efforts across all brands and operations for Hyatt in Mexico. You will serve as the Subject Matter Expert within Mexico for safety & security concerns, events, and incidents. You will provide proactive and pre-emptive actions to identify vulnerabilities and provide advice and direction for appropriate mitigations. Activities involve onsite audits and assessments, training, and security consultations to ensure the safety and well-being of Hyatt brand, guests, staff, and assets from a range of security risks and threats (particularly criminality, terrorism, and political violence but also includes emergency preparedness and recovery actions from natural causes).
You will have direct reporting to the Regional VP of Security for Americas and indirect supervision and guidance from the Managing Director for Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection in LAC as well as the SVP for Operations for LAC.
You will manage applicable safety & security contractors and vendors, supervise regional security specialists and provide guidance and mentoring to hotel security leaders. You will also provide expert investigative, intelligence, and physical security support to the region’s hotel operations and assist in the continuous improvement and development of security programs, materials, management systems, emergency preparedness and initiatives.
The role requires extensive collaboration with other stakeholders to include Operations, HR, Legal, Engineering, Comms and Security within Mexico and the greater LAC Region and Corporate.
A successful Director of Security in Mexico will:
Implement security policies, standards, and security management systems, identifying appropriate responsibilities, accountabilities, and development requirements across the assigned region under guidance of the RVP and Head Global Security.Respond to SSM events as necessary and provide assistance, support and direction to property leadership and SSM management teams under supervision of the MG HIC LAC and SVP LAC Operations, providing direct area and/or local level support, as necessary.Investigate security incidents involving actual or potential loss or exposure to the company at the direction of the RVP Security or MG/SVP Operations.Act as a liaison point for security and law enforcement agencies and coordinate with them (as appropriate) any security incidents, threats, and investigations involving Hyatt operations within the assigned region.Collect, assess, and act on security intelligence from all recognized sources.Audit and/or review hotel Security Programs at individual hotels across all ownership models and brands within the assigned region. May further evaluate individual hotel programs as needed. Conduct or support Threat and Vulnerability Assessments of higher-risk sites and follow-up implementation of recommendations.Support functional training initiatives to include security awareness and other topics for GM’s, Security Directors/Managers & Officers, and persons vested with security responsibilities as well as general colleagues within the region.Act as the primary point of contact for Hotel Security Directors/Managers in assigned region. Assist General Managers in developing hotel security management and program initiatives to address the varied needs of hotels within the region.Lead, direct and/or conduct inquiries and investigations concerning criminal acts, workplace violence incidents, employee behavior, conduct and malfeasance, or other incidents impacting the safety & security of Hyatt’s guests, colleagues, visitors, and Brand reputation, with close coordination with other Hyatt stakeholders.Support operational acceptance and compliance with all Fire, Life, Health, Safety, and Security standards and ways of working across all ownership and operating models as part of the enterprise Security and Risk Management team.Develop and maintain formal and informal networks in government security and law enforcement agencies, hotel industry counterparts, and corporate security circles in support of the above in consultation with the Corporate Chief Security Officer (CSO).Develop knowledge of safety & security protocols, ordinances, and laws specific to the assigned region.Help identify appropriate security technologies, solutions, and vendors to positively impact Hyatt operations.Support the wider MG/SVP Operations business strategy and develop sales and marketing opportunities by leveraging safety, security, and risk management capabilities as part of the regional senior management team.Demonstrate a commitment to Hyatt's core values.
Qualifications
A successful Director of Security in Mexico will have:
Formal education in a relevant field of security or an equivalent combination of formal education and work-related security experience. Ten or more years progressive work-related experience with demonstrated proficiency in multiple relevant disciplines/processes, including previous law enforcement, intelligence, or military experience. Security or risk management information system knowledge a plus. Microsoft Office proficiency. Ability to travel up to 50%, you will be based in Cancun, Mexico located within Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection Regional Office. Fluency in Spanish and English, verbal and written. Willingness and ability to frequently respond 24x7 regarding issues relating to threats, emergencies, events, incidents, or potential loss.
