TARGET SALARY RANGE
Grade 12 - $99,200


The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity, and the amount budgeted for the position.

Summary

USIP is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join our team as an International Safety and Security Trainer. This position plays a critical role in preparing USIP staff, contractors, and partners for work in challenging and potentially dangerous environments, ensuring their safety and well-being. This position is located within the USIP Office of Global Security and Travel. This position is based in Washington, DC but requires frequent travel to locations globally in which USIP operates, including, but not limited to Latin America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

USIP Security is responsible for developing risk management skills at all levels of the workforce at headquarters in Washington, DC, and the broader overseas community. The Trainer’s primary responsibility is to design, develop, and deliver domestic and overseas training programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities


Training Design and Delivery
* Research, design, develop, and deliver safety and security training for USIP staff and contractors worldwide.
* Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs akin to personal security awareness, hostile environment awareness, risk management, and/or safe and secure approaches for field environments for USIP staff. Topics will include but are not limited to: threat recognition, first aid, navigating challenging and unpredictable environments, journey planning, USIP communication devices and protocols, decision-making, and responding to a critical incident.
* Tailor training content to address the specific needs and risks associated with the different regions and contexts in which USIP operates.
* Develop and conduct drills and simulations to prepare personnel for emergency situations relevant to the overseas location including natural disasters, civil unrest, regional conflict, and other security incidents.
* Ensure staff and partners working out of USIP overseas offices are familiar with emergency procedures and communication protocols.
* Ensure staff are well-trained on appropriate and relevant equipment for their travel and/or overseas operational context.
* Provide ongoing support and resources to empower staff to make informed security decisions.
* Provide advice and guidance to the Chief Security Officer on program performance and issues.

Security Policy Development
* Collaborate with the USIP security team to contribute to the development and updating of security policies and procedures.
* Stay informed about evolving policy and best practice responses to security threats and trends to continuously improve training content.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
* 6 + years of experience providing safety and security training. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent.
* Experience coordinating or conducting safety and security training and exercises for organizations.
* Experience analyzing or implementing adult education methodologies, participatory training, and facilitation techniques for safety and security training programs.
* Experience evaluating course material to determine modifications on educational courses for safety and security training.
* Experience working in a conflict zone.

* Experience designing training programs.
* Knowledge of developing program evaluations.
* Knowledge of training technology.
* In-depth knowledge of global security issues and trends with a focus on international security issues.
* Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and captivate diverse audiences.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally.
* Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
* Ability to travel internationally (3-4 times a year).
* Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. The ability to communicate in an additional language (e.g. French, Arabic, Spanish) is preferred.
