Safety Advisor - DR Congo

Salary of €4550 per month

Job Summary
As a Safety Advisor Ituri, you will be based in Bunia with travel in the region. You will have the unique opportunity to work with a close-knit team to provide the NGO community with contextual analysis and safety advice and help improve humanitarian access. Your responsibilities will mainly be the production of analysis products according to INSO standards, the management and strengthening of the team, and the advice to partners.

To be selected, you must have solid humanitarian experience, particularly in context analysis, humanitarian access and NGO security management. You must be an open, curious, rigorous person, able to manage and strengthen a team, communicate with an excellent level of French and above all, willing to share INSO's commitment to humanitarian principles.

Main responsibilities:
Ensure the provision of INSO services for the Ituri region (Alerts, reports, meetings, advice), producing rapid and credible contextual analyses, in accordance with internal policies;
Supervise and manage an operational team;
Conduct regular context assessment missions;
Establish an active information network bringing together key national and international actors;
Ensure the representation of INSO in the province and actively participate in the various coordination platforms;
Assist NGOs in developing their own security management capacities by providing sound advice on risk management policies, site security and crisis management;
Manage the internal security of INSO staff and assets in the province;
Supervise, strengthen and support an operational and support team (log, admin, HR)
Effectively represent and promote INSO's mandate of independence, impartiality and neutrality.

Mandatory conditions:
Fluent French and working knowledge of English;
Master's level education in a relevant field, or lower with significant experience;
Experience of at least two years in an NGO position with responsibilities for risk management and humanitarian access, with team management (head of mission, field coordinator, base manager, security referent, etc.) in a conflict/post-conflict environment;
Excellent writing, analytical and rigorous skills – the position requires a lot of editing and proofreading work.

Desired features:
Minimum one year of field experience in DRC, Ituri especially;
Experience in liaison with armed actors (CMCOORD) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL);
Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and practices, risk management, security, NGO access and INSO's mandate;
Knowledge of Swahili is an asset.

Terms & Conditions

12-month contract. Monthly salary of €4550 per month, 4 calendar days of annual leave per month worked, 7 days of R&R every 2 months with an allowance of €1250, accommodation, global medical coverage (excluding USA) and life insurance included.
