Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)Main Purpose of Job:
The British Embassy in Jakarta is part of a world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British political, defence, economic, trade, and consular interests around the world. We are currently looking to recruit a Post Security Manager (PSM) to join our high performing team. The successful candidate will help the Post Security Officer (PSO – who is also Deputy Head of Mission) and the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) ensure a secure working/living environment for staff at the British Embassy Jakarta and the British Consulate in Bali.
The Post Security Manager (PSM) plays a key role in our security team. The PSM works under supervision of the ROSM, but given the “real time” nature of security threats the individual needs to be confident and flexible enough to take independent decisions when necessary; and is encouraged to use his / her initiative. Additionally, the PSM must have good interpersonal and influencing skills, in order to communicate unambiguously with colleagues at all levels within the Embassy.
We are looking for a self-starter, able to offer solutions rather than simply identify and pass on problems. The position is offered on a one-year Fixed Term Contract to start with. A contract extension or conversion to a permanent contract after 1 year is possible subject to a satisfactory performance.

Oversee day-to-day security at post, acting as first point of contact with security contractor, conduct daily briefings and meetings, and also facilitate training for staff and guards, including induction for newcomers.
Monitor contract guards’ disposition and ensure that staffing levels are maintained across our estate. Conducting regular security visits and inspections.
Establish and maintain contacts across the security community and develop a network at other embassies and close liaison with senior local police, law enforcement, and security officers/agencies.
Ensure that the maintenance regime for all security-related equipment is followed, requesting remedial action where faults are identified. Routine testing of Emergency procedures drills and processes.
Reporting all security related matters to the PSO/ROSM.
Approve / amend / promulgate guard Standard Operating Procedures for the Mission.
Investigate and Brief the PSO/ROSM on security matters that may affect the secure operation of the Embassy and issue security advisory notices to our staff.
Assist in the coordination of security protocols during major events and VIP visits.
Provide out-of-hours assistance, as required, to staff involved in security related incidents, e.g., traffic accident, criminal activity. Be available via telephone 24/7.
Act as a member of the Crisis Security Team and provide security advice and assistance during any crisis or emergency situation.
Given that the PSM will act as the deputy to the ROSM it is vitally important that the PSM has a strong level of English (spoken).
Resources Managed (Staff and Expenditure):
The Post Security Manager has oversight of the contract guard force and Local Police force. The PSM is also responsible for the security budget and daily spend.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Fluent English (spoken)
Experience in managing a security team
Basic knowledge of investigations
Physically fit / able to travel within Indonesia or internationally for personal development
Security qualifications or experience of on-the-ground security operations
Able to write and review investigative reports, logbooks, and other security reports using Microsoft applications
Experience of coordinating and liaising with local government, local law enforcement; agencies, and other security entities
Understanding of radio and other communication system and technical security; systems (CCTV, alarms, etc.) will be an advantage
