Job Purpose:
We are looking for a new Senior Risk Advisor. The position sits within our dynamic and growing risk advisory team, whoprovide advice, support and guidance to a broad range of high-profile clients.
The post holder will be expected to interact with and provide specialist security risk management advice at a senior leadership / board level, and support security planning and risk mitigation at an operational (regional & country) level.
The post holder will assist organization’s clients to fulfil the appropriate level of Duty of Care for their staff, assets, programmes, reputation, and risk appetite.
Accountabilities
Working autonomously with clients you will provide safety and security advice and support for their work around the globe. The work is highly varied, and changes from week to week. Key activities include;
Risk Advisory Services:
• Developing and delivering strategic security risk management projects, such as security audits and security risk management frameworks.
• Supporting country level capacity strengthening, such as risk assessments and security management plans.
• Supporting travellers with contextual advice and risk assessments.
• Acting as a long-term embedded advisor to clients, with whom who you will work closely to manage security risk management challenges.
Crisis Management:
• Supporting clients by developing and implementing crisis preparedness capacity, including developing bespoke processes, and providing training and mentoring.
• Supporting retained clients to respond to critical incidents and crises.
Training:
With support from our Learning and Development team, you will instruct on a range of ILS’ learning programmes including;
• Residential HEAT courses
• Delivering bespoke products at client offices globally
• Online security risk management and travel safety courses
Person Specification
The ideal applicant will have empathy with ILS’ values and be able to work in a way that reflects these.
• You will have experience as a security risk management professional and/or experience of implementing security measures in challenging/low resource environments, preferably with an international NGO.
• You are confident to work alongside senior members of client staff and communicate aims and ideas to a range of audiences.
• You will be comfortable working within a small, dynamic team.
• You should be self-motivated and able to organise you own workload over multiple simultaneous projects.
Essential Requirements:
• A minimum of three years experience working in insecure environments, as a security risk advisor or operations manager at either national or regional levels, ideally with an international NGO.
• Familiarity with security risk management principles and practices.
• A good understanding of legal, moral, and contractual duty of care requirements.
• Demonstrable critical incident and crisis management experience.
• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce concise and succinct reports.
• Written and spoken fluency in English.
• High levels of IT literacy.
• A full clean UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements:
• A graduate, ideally post-graduate degree qualification, in security risk management, humanitarian or development practice, international relations or a similar field
• Digital / Information security knowledge, or Safeguarding knowledge
• French, Spanish, or Arabic language skills
• Experience of working in a commercial consultancy or account management role
