Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the FS-5 Security Officer assigned to the Planning unit, will be responsible for the following duties:
• Assist in the development, review and updating of all security related manuals/documents and plans.
• Assists in the timely development and review of Security Plans and components including contingency and crisis response plans, SOP’s, emergency communications, warden systems, and staff lists, as per requirements of UNSMS policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of the Area Security Plans (ASPs). e SOPs/Guidelines related to the UNSMS in South Sudan.
• Conducts threat assessments and comprehensive site surveys, identifies gaps in existing capability and make recommendation for amendment where necessary
• Development, maintenance, timely update, and dissemination of Security Risk Management (SRM) process in compliance with the UNDSS Security Policy Manual (SPM) to all relevant clients, with analysis and assessment based on the applicable threat categories.
• Ensure that all updated reference materials and UN Policies and guidelines are maintained and available on the security SharePoint.
• Evaluates air, land and sea emergency evacuation capability; conducts evacuation exercises and recommends appropriate action.
• Exchange security related information with mission components at the working level and UN agencies in the same area to ensure an awareness of the current security issues, as required.
• Prepares and provides security briefings, written security advice and recommendations to the security hierarchy.
• Liaises where necessary and tasked with designated host government security, safety, and emergency personnel at the working level to facilitate fact-findings and recommendations.
• Maintains continuing lines of communication with security focal points and other UN or non-UN stakeholders.
• Performs other duties as required.

Effective planning, implementation, and coordination of a security system capable of enabling the conduct of United Nations activities while ensuring the safety, security and well-being of personnel and the security of United Nations premises and assets.
