Job Description
The Health, Safety, and Security Officer reports to the Area Manager. The purpose of the officer position is day-to-day implementation of the support functions' and responsibilities. Use actions words such as ensure, implement or assist for the position's relevant responsibilities

Responsibilities

Assist the Area Manager in following up on implementation of health, safety and security related recommendations by audit teams and/or by Security office in Nairobi.
Collect relevant information and share with AM.
Liaise with County and Area Government Security Agencies and Provincial Administration for timely updates on security related matters.
Share weekly security updates with the RSSC Nairobi on security situation of Kakuma and adjacent areas.
Ensure adequate security measures during programme distributions and other events undertaken by NRC
Ensure that the safety and security of staff, and property in assigned field sites
Plan and conduct trainings both for incentive staff with security roles
Maintain reporting system of incidents occurring within the NRC Kakuma Area
Assist the Area Manager in investigating crime incidences within the NRC Kakuma program and making recommendations to the management for action.
Attend security-related meetings and training
Perform routine spot checks at the NRC compound, field bases/sites and stores facilities.
Check on any act of fraud, coercion or undue influence.
Co-ordinate with the guards, other security personnel (G.O.K security), and the store's supervisor on issues regarding the safety of items around the premise and movements of items
Ensure security control measures are strictly followed; including strict gate pass policy is adhered to.
Any other duty assigned by the supervisor or his designate

Qualifications
Experience from working as a Support Function Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge of English


Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience


Bachelor’s degree in Sociology or related subject
Training in safety and security
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
Experience from working as a Safety and Security Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Excellent investigative and reporting skills
Excellent surveillance and emergency response skills.
Ability to coordinate and plan
Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
Able to work under minimum supervision
Knowledge in communication, VHF, HF radios, and Thuraya
Strong people management/supervisory skills, proven ability to manage security service providers, and good communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment
Flexibility and adaptability to change and accept work assignments outside normal working hours.
Computer literacy and a good understanding of Microsoft software applications, MS Word and MS Excel)
Proficient in written and oral English and Swahili
