Job Summary:
In addition to performing all functions of Level I Gunsmith, the level II usually requires attendance at factory Armorer’s courses of small arms in the arms room inventory, performs major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, possesses excellent knowledge of gun-smiting tools and procedures, and possesses moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics. This worker has a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles, has a moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories. The Gunsmith II can perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems. This position may require computer literacy.
Responsibilities:
Serves as Journeyman repairer of all small arms such as, but not limited to pistols, rifles, shotguns, carbines, grenade launchers, submachine guns, mortars, cannons, howitzers and other accessories such as mounts, bayonets and tripods
Performs the full range of work involved in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of small arms and accessories
Makes initial acceptance inspection which consists of diagnosis and location of mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions of small arms and accessories
Performs complete disassembly, completely checks all parts by visual, gauge or operational means. Determines exact nature of repairs required. Replace broken or damaged parts in accordance with specifications of technical manuals and technical bulletins
Reassembles weapons completely. Modifies weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies in accordance with DA modification work orders
Perform bore scope and pullover on M1A2, M109A6, and other cannon related equipment. Annotates information on DA form 2408 weapons card
Uses hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments and jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications and adjustments
Maintains and conducts all aspects of vault operations, security and documentation of sensitive items, IAW Company and applicable regulations
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent with formal military or civilian training in small arms repair specific to 45/91F series
Must possess and continuously maintain a current Driver’s License prior to starting
Must be US Citizen maintain a Secret Clearance
Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance
