The Global Security Response Advisor (GSRA) is a home-based, deployable position reporting to the Director of Operational Security, CARE Security Unit. The GSRA will support CARE and the CSU by providing rapid, deployable or remote technical support, to CARE Country Offices and Program teams. The role will deliver a critical and expert Security Risk Management capacity when emergencies of crisis strike. This role is a capacity multiplier, delivering both advice and technical excellence to CARE colleagues globally.
The role requires an experienced security manager, an individual with a high level of personal resilience, able to work in emergency and complex environments, who can deliver leadership and best practice in dynamic settings. She/he will be comfortable deploying against short timelines, maintaining sight of mission priorities, be results- and solutions-driven and able to work and influence a diverse group of stakeholders.
The position is approximately 65% deployable on assignment with Country or Regional offices, and while based at home, the GSRA will support on projects for the CARE Security Unit as directed by the Director of Operational Security. Given the variety of tasking required by the position, the post-holder will be highly capable across the spectrum of security risk management, including the design and development of technical tools and systems, best-practice emergency response safety processes, development of relationships to influence positive security culture, delivery of written and oral briefings and trainings, and capacity to offer clarity on CARE policies and protocols.
Additionally, the GSRA will support the CARE Security Unit’s RISKREADY program, serving as a trainer on courses and supporting the capacity development of CARE’s cohort of RISKREADY trainers under the guidance of the Director of Security Capacity Building and Development.
Responsibilities:
Support Country Office programs in periods of crisis or emergency response
Deploy as temporary cover for Country Office or regional safety and security staffing
Support the CARE Security Unit’s RISKREADY platform as a trainer and mentor
Administrative and support tasking while home-based
Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in security risk management, conflict analysis, international or development studies or a related field
Professional or vocational qualifications relevant to the field of safety and security
At least five years of experience in safety and security risk management in international settings
Security-related experience in the international humanitarian sector
Experience living and working in conflict or post-conflict environments
Fluency in written and spoken English
